CEDIA acquires The Cinema Designer

Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association (CEDIA) has announced the acquisition of home cinema design company The Cinema Designer, in a bid to make the software more readily available to its members.

CEDIA has announced the acquisition of The Cinema Designer – which will now become known as 'The CEDIA Designer' (TCD).

“The CEDIA Designer is an exceptional home theatre and media room design tool,” commented Tabatha O’Connor, CEDIA President and CEO.

“It has helped many integration firms save time and money in the design process while ensuring an outstanding client experience. The manufacturers like it because they can feel confident that their products are being specified correctly, with appropriate products being applied to appropriate-sized rooms.”

The award-winning cloud-based design tool was developed by British home theatre designer Guy Singleton to allow installers to create a 'technically perfect' home cinema or media room design with full documentation, a scale rendering of the finished theatre, and a 3D CAD model in minutes (after entering room specs and design criteria).

The software specifies precise location of loudspeakers, screen, seating, and projector and all amplification and processor, acoustic treatments requirements, and more, in accordance with CTA/CEDIA CEB-22 and CEB-23 Home Theatre Audio and Video Recommended Practices.

CEDIA has confirmed that Guy Singleton and the team behind the software will continue on as consultants focusing on product development, sales, and customer care.

“Having CEDIA as the stewards of TCD is a natural fit in our mind,” said Singleton. “We created this software specifically for the CEDIA channel, so being able to offer it to the members as a benefit and more broadly to the entire industry, is a win for all of us.”

All CEDIA members will now automatically gain a free subscription to use level I, the Media Room design software (worth £450) as part of their membership. The three remaining tiers – Media Room Pro, Cinema Room, and Cinema Room Pro – will also be significantly discounted for members.

CEDIA manufacturer members can also join the 60 companies (and their 1,500 products+) in the tool database and benefit from a discounted rate when enlisting products into the service (saving £1,500).

CEDIA will be demonstrating The CEDIA Designer at CEDIA Expo 2018 and will host a series of webinars following the show (26 September and 31 October).
