Smart Buildings Exhibition & Conference Offers Access to South-East European Markets (6/2/2013)

The business and the general public in South-East Europe are increasingly aware of the benefits of sustainable construction - cutting energy use, high ROI and low environmental impact. By implementing the best sustainable practices, the countries from the Region go a step towards a more sustainable future.

Smart Buildings Exhibition & Conference is the only specialized event in Bulgaria with a focus on building automation and management systems, building information modeling, software, financing, etc. It will facilitate the entering of foreign companies into the local marketplace with a growing potential. LiftBalkans is a parallel Exhibition on elevators and escalators which is aimed to encourage the development of this sector.

Keynote speakers from the European Renewable Energies Federation, European Commission - DG Energy, European Council for an Energy Efficient Economy, European Alliance of Companies for Energy Efficiency in Buildings, etc. will participate in the comprehensive Conference program.

The Bulgarian Green Building Council works towards the implementation of the internationally recognized DGNB system for evaluation of sustainable buildings and urban quarters. The speakers from the Council will make presentations on the topics “Financing of the Sustainable Business” and “Smart Buildings in Bulgaria”.

Mr. Oliver Rapf, the executive director of the Buildings Performance Institute Europe (BPIE), will define the nearly Zero Energy Buildings (nZEB) options according the local conditions. The Institute has recently published a report on the roadmaps towards nZEB in Central and Eastern Europe. BPIE researched and developed an ambitious roadmap for Poland, Romania and Bulgaria which will help these countries progress towards the implementation of nZEB and reduce the energy consumption levels and related carbon emissions.

During the last years the conception of smart buildings has become popular in Bulgaria. Several buildings with LEED and DGNB certifications have been realized and some others are in a process of being BREEAM certified. Some of these buildings are: Sofia Airport Center, Business Centre Serdica, Sopharma Business Towers, Building 15 of the Trade Center Europe.
