Meridian Launches 'Audio Secrets' Designers Handbook (28/9/2012) Meridian Co-Founder Allen Boothroyd Launches Meridian ‘Audio Secrets’ Guide for Designers Meridian Premium Partner, RS AV Solutions, recently hosted an exclusive 3-day event to launch the Meridian “Audio Secrets” Designers Handbook at their Digital Multi-Media Lounge, located at Muralto in London’s Portman Village. The guide has been created to build knowledge and awareness around key aspects of specifying the right sound system for client’s projects.
Allen Boothroyd, co-founder of Meridian and Design Director explains “The design philosophy that underlies Meridian systems is the combination of ground-breaking functional performance with a striking visual appeal. Aesthetics that make a bold design statement, but one that’s always in harmony with the surroundings - whether that means elegant, curved loudspeaker cabinets or in-wall loudspeakers <http://www.meridian-audio.com/the-collection/in-wall-loudspeakers/dsp500600-range.aspx> where all the ingenuity is there - but you can hear it rather than see it.” Allen personally launched the Designers Handbook in addition to showcasing some of Meridian’s iconic innovations, including the Lecson Audio system which was selected in 1976 for the New York Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) permanent collection. The event was aimed at the design community to tie in with the 2012 London Design Festival, of which RS AV Solutions is a partner and included a Q & A session with Allen, who is the only designer to have won 3 British Design Council Awards. Allen advises, “There was special interest in Meridian’s new range of Digital Active In-wall Loudspeaker models, whereby we’ve taken the latest technological developments that went into the new generation of free-standing DSP Loudspeakers, like the elegant M6 and applied these to a range of in-wall loudspeakers, offering the same superb performance – almost invisibly.” Meridian founders Bob Stuart and Allen Boothroyd met in Cambridge in the early 1970s and it was through a shared love of music they became friends. But it was their desire to better hear the music they loved that inspired them to design and manufacture their own audio equipment. And so Meridian was born. Bob Stuart studied Psychoacoustics, Electronic Engineering and Management at Imperial College, London. A passion for music soon led him to specialise in audio design. Allen Boothroyd trained as a mechanical engineer, going on to study industrial design at the Royal College of Art. Since founding the company 1977, both have remained at the heart of their respective disciplines: Bob heading all technological developments; Allen leading the design team. The results have been some of the most highly-praised audio equipment in the world, setting many a high-performance audio standard. As well as innumerable international awards for their components' performance and technology, Meridian's founders have the British Design Council Award for Outstanding British Products an unbeaten three times. www.meridian.co.uk
