Habitech Announces the New Sonance IS Range of Plaster-in Speakers (4/9/2012) Combining the best from competing designs, the new IS range of plaster-in speakers from Sonance could be the ultimate invisible speaker line. Twenty five years after Sonance invented the first in-wall speaker the company continues to transform the choice of speaker from an afterthought to an integral element of design. Its new IS line of invisible in-wall/ceiling speakers is the ultimate expression of its ‘degrees of invisibility’ concept. Blending the best virtues of two competitor brands in one design, the IS range offers installers brilliant full frequency performance, high efficiency and easier installation. It provides the easy-to-fit shallow depth and simple plaster-over installation of one competitor with the full-range audio capability of another, expertly combined by Sonance expertise and quality to create an unparalleled no-compromise invisible speaker solution.
Four IS models for system design flexibility Eighteen months in the making and incorporating high performance planar driver diaphragms protected by a plaster-ready paper surface, four IS models offer the opportunity for truly invisible full-range multi-channel, stereo and single stereo audio systems in virtually any interior space. The Sonance IS2 is a two-way design incorporating a 27 cm sq planar tweeter and 320 cm sq. planar woofer; the IS4 is a three-way model with a 110 cm sq planar midrange driver and larger 732 cm sq. planar woofer. The IS4SST is a single stereo speaker having a dual voice-coil version of the IS4 spec; and for the deepest bass, the ISW2 in-wall/ceiling woofer, featuring a 1098 cm sq. planar bass driver, completes the range. Great sound quality All models have a rigid metal baffle for the drivers and measure just 51mm deep, allowing a wide choice of installation options. Having around 90dB efficiency, they’re easy to drive with the average multi-room amplifier, or for optimum sound, a specialised Sonance Sonamp. Optional enclosures, which fit easily onto the back of each speaker frame, will improve the response even further. And for convenience, the terminal connections plug straight into the hard-wired cables from the speakers when the enclosure is attached. With the IS range, Sonance offers installers the potential to create the most extraordinary, most discreet full-frequency music and home theatre installations, which can neutralise the age-old conflict between audio systems and décor for good. All the sound -including deep bass as low as 35Hz (with the ISW2) -will spring from the sheer unbroken fabric of the room: these invisibles are supplied with a built-in WOW factor, irresistible to clients, easy to up-sell. Easier to install Installers can deliver the WOW factor more easily, because unlike certain full-range invisible speakers, the Sonance IS design can tolerate up to 2mm of plaster over the whole facia without degradation in sound quality. Habitech’s own experiments have revealed that the best acoustic results come from 2mm of Sheetrock Joint Topping compound after the speaker frame has been firmly screwed in.
