Jung Makes Intelligent Buildings Smarter and More Stylish (27/7/2010) It is 20 years this year since the KNX protocol first began to revolutionise the world of intelligent buildings and leading KNX systems supplier, Jung, continues to lead the field with innovative products designed to increase ease of integration and enhance functionality. Amongst these is the Jung Facility Pilot, a multi-layered tool for integrating a wide range of systems and controls with pre-programmed ‘scenes’, managed ‘events’ and automatic controls (with manual override). The complex software is matched by a simple-to-operate and flexible user interface that provides centralised visualisation, monitoring and control within a single touch screen, wall-mounted panel. The Jung Facility Pilot works by making all the existing functions process driven and centralising control in a single PC-based device. Its layered software includes the EIB editor, which makes the connection with the KNX bus system, enabling the system to gather all the required information like temperature values, lights status, etc direct from the bus and provide real time data. The ‘process model’ second layer contains all the logical functions and operations like scenes, sequences, time functions and consequential events. Finally, the system’s visualisation layer allows a bespoke user interface to be created using the touch screen Facility Pilot unit. End users can even select their own background images and animated gifs enabling them to view and control individual switches in a room on screen. The Facility Pilot now forms the backbone of many Jung intelligent building installations but the company continues to innovate with new products, focusing on both functionality and aesthetics. For example, Jung’s advanced door entry system combines simple-to-use installation and functionality, superior audio visual quality and stunning aesthetics to dramatically improve communication and security.
Designed for use in either single or multiple-occupancy dwellings, it is the first door entry system to offer completely echo-free simultaneous speech with full-duplex operation that removes any background noise or network interference. It also provides superb picture quality, via a 1.3 megapixel camera integrated in the external unit. The touch screen operation allows the user to tilt the camera, change the viewpoint and zoom in simply by using the 2.8” TFT colour screen. Jung’s expertise in developing quality A/V systems is also evident in its recently launched Wall-mounted Music Centre, which allows specifiers to select a docking station and loud speakers to match Jung switches, sockets and control panels. Designed for use with most MP3 players, iPods or iPhones, the Jung docking station features both line-out outputs for connection to hi-fi or multi-room audio-visual systems and a line-in stereo input for external music players and it even provides a mini USB connection. Indeed, the company has also launched a USB charger this year, becoming the first company in the UK to offer a recessed charger point in the wall that complements a style-conscious range of design-led wiring accessories. It’s this clear focus on quality and innovation that is making Jung the manufacturer of choice for so many KNX integrators. Amongst the latest companies to become Jung integrators is Cambridge-based Symfony, which was established as a lighting systems and smart homes specialist just three years ago. Director, Richard Caton, spotted the market potential of KNX technology and the company became KNX-certified last year. Symfony has since worked with Jung on a wide range of projects and has now opted to work with Jung KNX and Door Communication products. Explains Richard Caton: “What sets Jung apart is that their range provides a complete offering with a solution for almost any application and the Jung Facility Pilot is a great tool for enhancing functionality, enabling us to take integration to the next level.”
