Denon Launches S-5BD Integrated Blu-ray Player and 5.1-Channel Receiver (7/2/2010)

Denon, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of high-quality home entertainment products, today introduced the S-5BD BD/Receiver, a single-component home entertainment solution that elegantly combines an audiophile grade 5.1-channel surround sound receiver with an advanced Blu-ray player. The new S-5BD, launched at Integrated Systems Europe, forms the heart of every home cinema bringing audio and visual emotion to movies and music. Named an International CES Innovations 2010 Design and Engineering Awards Honouree, the newcomer will be available late March at a suggested retail price of EUR 1.999,-.

With its audiophile grade 5.1-channel surround sound receiver featuring 2-source, 2-zone distribution capabilities and state-of-the-art Blu-ray player featuring BD Live connectivity, the Denon S-5BD BD/Receiver is a simple solution for enjoying the very best in audio and video performance, including high-impact surround sound and high-definition video. The engineers added many of the same leading-edge technologies as featured in Denon’s revolutionary Blu-ray Universal player DVD-A1UD at a more affordable price than ever. Furthermore, the S-5BD is one of the first products announced to feature HDMI 1.4 with support of Audio Return Channel.

Interconnectivity, latest sound processing programs and total ease-of-use

The elegant Denon S-5BD adds both lifestyle and user-friendliness to peoples’ environment. An advanced intelligent system automatically detects the number and characteristics of speakers in your setup to achieve optimum performance for the room acoustics whether you are using a 2.1-channel or a 5.1-channel speaker system. This single S-5BD component ensures total enjoyment from pure stereo playback to full-fledged cinematic sound. The system further includes support for Dolby Pro Logic IIz, featuring front height effects channels as well as Dolby TrueHD/DTS-HD Master Audio for decoding lossless multi-channel recordings on Blu-ray Discs.

For unrivalled audio quality, the S-5BD features Denon’s AL24 Processing and a Compressed Audio Restorer to dramatically enhance the music listening experience. The unit also accommodates Audyssey MultEQ auto setup and room calibration technology. In addition, Audyssey Dynamic Volume frees listeners from the disruptive changes in volume levels when watching TV or a movie whilst Audyssey Dynamic EQ enhances the overall entertainment experience at any loudness level even further.

Denon engineers made connectivity a top priority in designing this new all-rounder. The unit features convenient front-panel HDMI and SD card inputs as well as iPod/iPhone digital direct playback via the USB port. It also provides Plug ‘n Play convenience (iPod/USB/Blu-ray/DVD/CD) as well as automatic sound mode, auto setup and an advanced graphical user interface (GUI).

Multi-zone system building, ideal for custom installations

The S-5BD provides a variety of clever options for multi-zone systems. Thanks to its advanced power amplifier assignment, users can enjoy a 2.1-channel main system and power up a second listening zone. Denon’s newcomer is further engineered specifically for use in today’s advanced custom installation systems. Among its many features are RS-232 for 3rd party control support, IR remote in/out ports and assignable high current DC trigger outputs. Additionally, in the event of future firmware updates and possible feature upgrades, owners of the S-5BD can download them directly via the unit’s Ethernet port.
