Monitor Audio launches Sonic Spotlight ultra-discreet micro-speaker (6/1/2010) Ultra-discreet new micro-speaker fits right into the hole cut for an in-ceiling halogen lamp to light up the room with full-range music At only 80mm (3 1/8 inches) diameter, Monitor Audio’s CPC120 is a loudspeaker that offers extraordinary sound quality for a truly innovative application. Its precision-engineered micro-design allows it to offer a surprisingly coherent and detailed performance from a standard halogen down-lighter hole.
The secret to the design’s success is that in spite of its size, and unlike many other in-ceiling speakers, it provides a dedicated enclosure for the driver, which is rigid and mineral-filled, giving improved quality and consistency to midrange and bass frequencies wherever the CPC120 is installed. Although miniaturised, the CPC120’s 2” full range driver utilises technologies found across Monitor Audio’s more conventional up-market speakers. Featuring a long-throw voice coil to compensate for its small diameter, the driver is mounted on a through-bolt from the back of the enclosure, which removes the need for front-fixings and braces the structure for better rigidity and sound quality. Gold plated push terminals are used to provide a reliable electrical contact and standard spring-clip fixings ensure an easy and secure ceiling mounting into plasterboard. The CPC120 can be installed on its own or in multiples to deliver greater coverage, increased power handling and sound pressure level. It’s available with white, chrome, brass or brushed steel bezels to match the typical down-lighter finishes, achieving a near invisible integration with any décor. CPC120 Features and Benefits •
