Home Control & Energy Saving Conference shows high momentum for energy savings solutions based on home control automation (18/11/2008)

The first European Home Control & Energy Saving conference was a complete success and achieved high momentum in the industry, business and politics. More than 220 representatives from 13 nations took part in the event, which was presented by Danish Electricity Savings Trust (DEST) and the Z-Wave Alliance. Efficient solutions based on the home control technology for lowering the energy consumption in private households were introduced. Market leading companies used the conference as a platform to introduce current developments and trends in the home control area as well as new energy controlling products for the European market.

The home control market is continuously expanding in Europe: in the mean time more than 170 companies belong to the Z-Wave Alliance, the consortium of producers from the home technology branch. The 13 exhibitors in Copenhagen included companies like Modstroem, düwi, Hunter Douglas, Wintrop 2000, Everspring, Electronic Housekeeper, Danfoss, NorthQ, Horstmann, Elsparefonden and others. In the scope of the conference, more than 50 new home control products from the areas of energy savings, security, HVAC, lighting, entertainment, remote home monitoring and appliances for the European market were introduced.

Smart Metering: Personal contribution for a green future

Particularly in times of limited resources and rising costs, the lowering of the energy consumption without simultaneous losses in living comfort is a central topic. With the help of the smart metering technology, home and apartment owners always have an overview of their current needs. Based on the statistics about the hourly, daily or monthly consumption, they can subsequently take efficient measures to reduce the consumption. The independent Danish energy supplier Modstroem uses this in order to offer their customers new tariff models with reductions for active energy savers. More than 30 percent savings are possible according to the Modstroem CEO Roar Seeger: "Merely the constant display of the consumption motivates the house owner to actively reach for energy saving measures. The key to this is the installation of a home network based on the Z-Wave Technology, because this makes possible the intelligent management of energy and heating devices which is in tune with the real needs." In the forefront of the world climate summit COP15, which is to take place next year in Denmark, the HCES conference thus made it clear that technological concepts based on wireless home control are an important contribution for a "greener" future.

MyHome: the energy saving house of the future

In the scope of the conference, the DEST presented its web application MyHome. With this, a complete house or apartment furnishing can be portrayed graphically online using drag-and-drop. In doing so, all technical devices with their respective consumption values are integrated. In cooperation with the affected energy supplier, the user has a constant insight into his individual consumption statistics via Internet - no matter where he is.
