Intellon's Technology Integrated into New TIA-1113 International Standard by Telecommunications Industry Association (17/6/2008)

TIA-1113 is the World's First Broadband-Class Powerline Communications Standard Adopted by an ANSI-Accredited Organization

Intellon Corporation (Nasdaq:ITLN), a leading provider of HomePlug(R)-compatible integrated circuits (ICs) for home networking, networked entertainment, Ethernet-over-Coax (EoC) and smart grid applications, applauded the decision by the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) to incorporate HomePlug 1.0 powerline technology into its newly published international standard. The new TIA-1113 standard defines modem operations on user-premises electrical wiring. The standard is the world's first multi-megabit powerline communications standard adopted by an American National Standards Institute (ANSI)-accredited standards development organization (SDO).

Intellon Corporation, a long-time leader in powerline communications technology, created and patented the powerline communications technology that later became the baseline of the HomePlug 1.0 standard adopted by the HomePlug Powerline Alliance (HPA).

Intellon has been a leading contributor to global powerline standards efforts for many years. In addition to the HomePlug 1.0 baseline technology used in the new TIA standard, Intellon created and patented the baseline technology for the Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA) EIA-600 CeBus powerline command and control standard and the Society of Automobile Engineers (SAE) SAE-J2497 standard for powerline communications for ABS brake monitoring in tractor-trailer trucks. Intellon was also a major contributor to the HPA's 200 Mbps PHY-rate HomePlug AV specification for high definition multi-media powerline communications.

"Intellon has been a standards-based company since its inception," said Charlie Harris, Chairman and CEO of Intellon. "Standards play an incredibly important role in driving the global adoption of powerline communications technology and our customers appreciate the benefits derived from standardization. We have built our business on standards-based products, and have shipped more than 25 million ICs based on EIA, SAE, TIA and HomePlug powerline communication standards."

Intellon is continuing its support of global standards activities by participating actively in the IEEE's P1901 powerline standards initiatives for in-home, access and co-existence applications and the ITU's G.hn initiative for an anywire standard covering communications over powerline, coaxial cable and telephone wiring.

About TIA-1113

The TIA Standard 1113 defines the functions, operations, and interface characteristics of a system for medium speed networking using the medium of power line wiring based on Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM).
