Opus showcases its new touchscreen keypad in the National Self Build and Renovation Centre (6/7/2008)

Opus Technologies has recently taken on a permanent presence in the National Self Build and Renovation Centre near Swindon. The centre attracted over 20,000 visitors in its first year many of whom have their own plot of land and are ready to start building their dream home. Research has shown an exponential growth in the number of people equipped for custom installations having prewired new builds and renovated homes with cabling. Opus views the Centre as the perfect way to educate more people about this growing area of home improvement and demonstrate the advantages of future proofing for a smart home. Multi-room entertainment systems and third party integration with lighting and blind manufacturers can add crucial value to a property.

Opus’ stand (adjacent to CEDIA’s) has an active WCU600 touchscreen which plays a loop demonstration of its features while a TV screen provides further information on the whole Opus 500 multi-room entertainment system. Visitors to the Opus stand can electronically request the latest consumer brochure which will be sent direct to their home while the Opus website’s Certified Dealer Locator can quickly identify their nearest specialist.

The WCU600 touchscreen keypad is - as featured on this landmark stand - designed to seamlessly control both the Opus 500 system and a number of third party lighting and other smart home products. It can even display video from DVD, TV or CCTV systems and the on screen menus of audio/video servers, iPod docks and more. The high contrast backlit hi-resolution colour screen can display a staggering 16 million colours and is fully customisable for individual use. The WCU600 triumphantly reconciles the often difficult compromise between technological ability and ease of use for the home owner making it a true smart home gateway and sets a new industry standard for performance at this price point.

The National Self Build and Renovation Centre is 67,000 sq ft and houses a scale model two-storey home with ease which is used to show the full range of self build and home improvements available. Over 240 suppliers have stands in the building and can make use of demonstration areas and an auditorium for training sessions. Other facilities include Design and Finance Centres, Plotsearch Theatre as well as Trade Referral, Planning and Technical Help Desks.
