Russ Andrews adds SP-1 loudspeaker to compact component series (23/4/2008) Russ Andrews introduces the new SP-1 loudspeakers to complement the existing PA-1, HP-1 and DAC-1 series of compact, high performance hi-fi components. Based around the well respected Focal Chorus 705V loudspeaker, the SP-1 has seen an extensive reworking of the original design to improve its performance. The cabinet, crossover and internal wiring have all been given the Russ Andrews treatment, including a complete rewire with Kimber Kable's 4PR cable, the use of high quality KimberKap capacitors and internal damping modifications. The result is a loudspeaker with a vastly improved sensitivity of 95dB (making them easy to drive with modestly powered amplifiers) and a sound that is detailed, dynamic and natural. Partnered with the Russ Andrews desktop audio series, the SP-1 speakers are quite capable of reproducing the widely praised musicality of the electronics. The diminutive SP-1s (192 x 315 x 248mm) retain the existing Focal drive units; the Polyglass(r) impregnated paper mid-bass units for dynamic, fast and tight bass and the aluminium/magnesium inverted dome TNV tweeter, with its 28kHz response and wide dispersion characteristics. System frequency response is 65Hz - 28kHz (+/- 3dB), nominal impedance is 8 ohms and nominal power handling, 100 Watts. With the introduction of the SP-1, Russ Andrews has confirmed its commitment to developing products whose primary objective is to add to the user's appreciation of music, whilst offering excellent value for money. Available in either black or Amati wood finishes, the SP-1 is priced at £399 per pair. Available now, direct from Russ Andrews Accessories with a 60 day money back guarantee if not entirely satisfied.
