Symmetry announces Thiel's PowerPoint speakers that look good in every room (22/4/2008)

All too often the choice has to be made whether to enjoy the aesthetics of a room, or compromise on the aesthetics and include speakers that deliver a great sound, but look awful.

American speaker company Thiel understands this conflict and have come up with some innovative ideas to solve them.

In their PowerPoint speaker, Thiel has produced a remarkably discreet and attractive unit that can be positioned on a wall or on the ceiling without compromising the stereo or surround sound performances they deliver.

The remarkable curved shape of the speaker not only allows this flexibility in positioning, but the aluminium cabinet can be supplied in a finish that can be painted to blend in with the room, or even in a wood veneer that you can specify to the factory to match existing furniture or panelling.

Thiel understands the concept of quality - and with all aspects of manufacture taking place at its factory in Lexington, Kentucky, it can meet the needs of the most demanding customer. One recent request was for some loudspeakers to be finished in "Zebra" stripes of different wood veneers so that they merged perfectly with the wood surfaces used in a new home (see attached photographs). With their own veneering specialists in-house, Thiel was able to match the finish of the speakers to the sample supplied making a perfectly discreet speaker that became almost invisible on the wall.

The Thiel PowerPoint's unique wedge shape works particularly well in ceiling applications. They can be used as the loudspeakers in home cinema and music systems and can also be used alone or in pairs throughout the home in bedrooms, kitchens, and offices producing outstanding sound quality everywhere.

As with all things, this level of attention to detail and performance comes at a higher price than the standard model, and there is an extended delivery time. The Thiel PowerPoint is sold as individual loudspeakers at a price of around £995 for a standard finish and with the price of customised finishes depending upon the customer's specification.
