New SpeakerCraft Cinema Subwoofers Go In-Wall (8/4/2008) Pre-construction cabinets now being installed by dealers SpeakerCraft, America's original manufacturer of in-wall speakers is now shipping the first of its in-wall Cinema Subwoofers. The bright red enclosures are going into houses across the country. Dealer's desire for high performance in-wall sub solutions are now being addressed in an elegant and efficient format. "Getting the subs up off the floor is a great way to make the home theater a more integrated part of the living area," says Dave Donald, SpeakerCraft's V.P. of Marketing. "These new subs are going to allow dealers to deliver the sub bass performance customers want without the massive footprint that floor standing subs require." The Cinema Subwoofer Systems include three elements. The first is the dedicated enclosure for each of the three models that mounts in the wall. This is obviously best in new construction applications before the drywall is installed. Although, there are a number of dealers who are willing to go through the process of retrofitting the enclosure when necessary. The second element is the woofer driver itself. Either an 8, 10 or 12-inch woofer is installed depending on the model. Installing the driver after the house is secure greatly reduces loss due to theft on the job site. The grill is then installed at trim-out. The third element is the amplifier. Dedicated amplifiers with 150, 200 and 250 watts of power are optimized to drive the three sub models and are standard shelf mount components to be place with the source equipment. All three amps feature volume control on the front panel and low-pass crossover and phase control on the rear panel. The system MSRP is $999, $1,299 or $1,959 for the 8-inch, 10-inch or 12-inch versions, which includes the enclosure, driver, grill and dedicated amplifier.
