NTI introduces new functions for the Minirator MR-PRO analog signal generator (27/3/2008)

NTI extends the functionality of the analog signal generator MR-PRO by introducing the new firmware V2.01. Now Minirator MR-PRO measures the impedance and phase of the connected load and calculates the related power for 70V or 100V distributed loudspeaker systems. An enhanced cable test function and new test signals for amplifier and noise measurements widen the applications range of the MR-PRO.

The Minirator is an extremely powerful analog audio generator to satisfy every need for the professional engineer. The superior functionality of the new MR-PRO firmware V2.01 speeds up the day-to-day work of installers and contractors.

Impedance and Power Testing

The new impedance and power test function perfectly suits 70V/100V distributed loudspeaker installations. The technician simply selects the applicable system reference voltage (e.g. 70V or 100V) and connects the speaker line terminals. Now the Minirator immediately displays the nominal power and phase angle of the speaker line. The test level and frequency are adjustable according to requirements. The measurement results show whether the selected section of the system is wired according to specifications, and reliably detects incorrectly terminated or defective speakers. These new functions simplify commissioning tasks of any 70 or 100V distributed loudspeaker system.

Cable Testing

XLR-audio cables may be miss-wired in the soldering process or break during usage. The extended MR-PRO cable test function detects all common XLR wiring faults with a precise description to the user, such as "2-3 Crossed" or "Pin 2 open". This result gives accurate instructions for the repair of the cable.

New Test Signals: 1/3 octave band Pink Noise and Square Wave

Individual user test signals may be stored as uncompressed WAV-files in the MR-PRO memory. NTI offers such new WAV-signals extending the application range of the Minirator MR-PRO. Now a set of 1/3rd octave narrow band pink noise signals is available, essential for architectural acoustics applications to measure the airborne noise isolation index. High isolation indices typically require very high sound pressure levels that cannot be emitted with wideband pink noise due to limitations of the amplifier or speaker as the energy spreads among the entire bandwidth. In addition a set of square wave signals is also available for a quick diagnosis of amplifier behavior.

The new MR-PRO firmware V2.01 is free of charge.
