SpeakerCraft debuts new in-wall bass engines (15/1/2008) Stand C70, Integrated Systems Europe 2008 SpeakerCraft, America's original manufacturer of in-wall speakers will exhibit three new modular subwoofer systems for in-wall applications at ISE 2008. The growth in the popularity of in-wall and in-ceiling speakers as a means to deliver dˇcorfriendly sound has generated a similar desire for discrete in-wall subwoofers. SpeakerCraft has addressed this demand with the 'Cinema' range of subwoofers: three new models designed to blend seamlessly with a wide variety of loudspeakers. The systems comprise a Cinema Sub driver in 8-inch, 10-inch and 12-inch sizes, powered by a dedicated outboard 'Bass Power' amplifier in corresponding 150, 200 and 250 watt versions. In each case there is an option for installation with or without the 'AccuTune' cabinet. The systems owe their success to careful optimisation. Tom Lee, SpeakerCraft's principal loudspeaker engineer is responsible for the new drivers. "Quality sub bass requires more than just a driver in the right size box," says Lee. "A careful balance between the motor structure, suspension, cone parameters and cabinet design is critical if the delivery of high sound pressure and deep bass is to be achieved from an in-wall location. We have successfully created that balance." Each 'Bass Power' amplifier has been designed to join source equipment as a standard shelf-mounted component and features a volume control on the front panel and low-pass crossover and phase control on the rear panel. Commenting on the new Cinema sub models SpeakerCraft's VP of engineering Jeff Francisco said "Deep bass with dynamic impact is usually relegated to a large enclosure and a substantial footprint in the room. These subs will continue our tradition of high-performance with minimal intrusion into the living space." Availability: April 2008 Approx retail prices (inc VAT):
