ITC One-Step Stripper Now Available for A/V Installations (3/1/2008)

Time-Saving Tool Uses Spring Tension to Eliminate Need for Fine-Tuning

ITC (Instant Tool-less Connector), a division of The Quest Group (parent company of AudioQuest), announces that its one-step stripper for the preparation of coaxial cable for termination is now available. This latest solution from ITC offers multiple blades in one tool and saves time in the field by eliminating the need for fine-tuning to make a proper cut.

For setting a tool to accommodate different wire gauges, many rotary strippers on the market require time-consuming fine-tuning to adjust the depth of each of the two blades that cut to the center conductor and the edge of the second shield (braid). With the one-step stripper from ITC, however, installers simply flip the cartridge and let the spring tension do the rest.

The tool is sprung towards a closed position. To open, installers squeeze and place the cable up to the included "stop" on the blade cartridge and then release, which allows the tool to close on the cable, pushing the blade into the coax with appropriate pressure to make the cut. The stop ensures that the center conductor is left at the perfect length every time. The tool is then rotated to complete the cut.

For further time savings, the one-step stripper features multiple blades toward the rear of the tool, alleviating the need to reach for another tool to cut cable ends. With an adjustable blade for stripping outer jackets, the device is ideally suited for working with reusable ITC tool-less connectors.

"All ITC products are aimed at saving installers time in the field, allowing them to move on to the next job more quickly," said William Low, CEO of The Quest Group. "To that end, we are very pleased that the one-step stripper is now available. With this tool, there is no fine-tuning of the blades when prepping cable termination and no need to grab for another tool in order to cut the cable ends. When this stripper is used in conjunction with our tool-less line of connectors, the time savings can be significant."

The ITC one-step stripper is now available for 18- and 24-AWG coax cable, with 20-, 23-, and 26-AWG cable slated for early 2008.
