AudioQuest's new Sky Interconnect Cable introduced by The Multi-Room Company (21/12/2007)

US cable manufacturer AudioQuest's latest flagship interconnect, Sky, has been brought to the UK by Cheltenham based distributor The Multi-Room Company.

The uniquely constructed SKY utilises three solid, high-purity, Perfect Surface Silver (PSS) conductors to minimise the distortion caused by the grain boundaries that exist in any metal conductor. The resulting effect is an elimination of harshness and greatly increased clarity compared to other materials. The three conductors in the Triple Balanced cable ensure that, whether prepared with RCA or XLR plugs, the positive and negative signals have equally low distortion conducting paths, eliminating the need to use the 100% coverage shield as an inferior audio conductor.

As air is proven to be the best insulation, because it doesn't absorb and later release energy, SKY's PSS conductors, contained within the low energy absorption Teflon extruded insulation, have almost nothing but air around them. These Teflon tubes are 50% larger than the company's previous flagship cable, minimising the time-smearing characteristics of the dielectric.

AudioQuest's renowned Dielectric-Bias System (DBS) utilises a 72 volt charge to bias the dielectric in the cable, alleviating the requirement for cable burn in and resulting in a considerably more transparent and dynamic performance than that from even a cable in continuous use on a neverswitched- off system.

Terminations are via balanced XLR or phono plugs, manufactured from Ohno Continuous Cast Copper (OCC) and these are connected to the Perfect Surface Silver conductors using a cold weld technique to avoid the application of heat to the metals. (The Ohno process produces some of the best and highest purity wires and conductors.)

Commenting on the launch of SKY, Rob Hay, business development manager at The Multi-Room Company, said "SKY brings to the UK hi-fi enthusiast a level of cable performance not seen before in the UK market. It's the culmination of many years research and development by Bill Low, CEO of AudioQuest, and offers a purity of signal, transparency and articulation, whilst retaining a smooth presentation that allows you to really listen to the music without the hi-fi getting in the way."

Pricing
SKY interconnect 1m £1633 (with phono or XLR connectors)
