DMi Presentation to Launch Escient Vision Series AV Media Servers (18/12/2007) Stand K49, Integrated Systems Europe 2008 DMi D&M Installation, the dedicated CI and commercial AV division of D&M Europe, is launching the new Escient Vision(tm) Series of HD digital media servers at ISEurope. Escient's next generation media server series is a totally new - from the ground up - high definition hardware and software platform that offers exciting new capabilities and features for accessing, managing and storing video and audio. The Vision Series is the culmination of more than 10 years experience in the design and manufacture of advanced solutions for managing and accessing digital media.
ISEurope sees the European debut of the Vision Series, and the first showing anywhere of full production models of the component player and server products. Final production specification includes support for full-HD 1080p video and the ability to 'ingest' content from DVD titles. An array of features are geared toward the custom installation market, including HDMI v1.3 HD connectivity, Gigabit Ethernet networking and control, RAID data mirroring, and proprietary early error detection monitoring. Advanced, easy-to-use operating features are accessed from a new high definition graphical user interface. Scalable system operation, from stand-alone server / playback products, to networked multi-room integration, is inherent in the platform design; enabling the playback of different movies, music or digital photographs in different locations throughout a residential or commercial environment. The Vision range comprises the Vision VS Series all-in-one HD media server and player platform, the VC-1 networked client player, and the large-capacity VX-600 media server. VS Series all-in-one media servers are designed for a single room installation. The VS-100 and VS-200 store approximately 100 and 200* movies respectively, and feature two hard drives in a RAID 1 configuration for data security. Both models also feature upconversion of video and audio when playing DVD and CD media. The VC-1 Networked Client provides the same features as the VS without the hard drive storage. Up to five VC clients can run from a single VS unit, streaming media over standard Gigabit Ethernet, enabling expansion of multi-room systems. For systems comprising more than five rooms, or for storage of more than 200 movies, the VX-600 features four hot swappable 1TB drives in RAID 5 configuration, along with advanced early detection error monitoring for reliable installation in any networked home. Up to 10 VC clients can run off of a single VX server, and up to four VX units can be cascaded to provide storage of around 2400 movies. Commenting on the importance of the launch of Escient Vision for DMi at ISEurope, General Manager Mark Perrins stated, "This is a very exciting time to be working with Escient products. The new video server range will bring distributed video into residential environments, with unrivalled ease of use and confidence in data storage. The system is very competitively priced, creating a price point never seen in a video-on-demand system before. And with free, automatic software updating the system is future proof." * based on an average file size of 5GB per movie. Pricing TBA; availability February 08 .
