News AMX announces Metreau Entry Communicator door communication and entry system (1/10/2007) CEDIA US Expo 2007 Metreau Entry Communicator provides notification upon guest arrival, video and audio communication and power via IP AMX announced that it has expanded its control system product offering with its first Voice and Video over IP (V2IP)-enabled door communication and entry system. Designed to be placed at the entry points of homes, condominiums, hotels and corporations, the new Metreau Entry Communicator provides doorbell functionality, along with full-duplex audio and one-way video communications, I/O's (Inputs/Outputs) for motion sensors and relays for remotely unlocking electronic, magnetic locks. AMX is showcasing its Metreau Entry Communicator line in AMX booth 501 at CEDIA Expo, being held in Denver Sept. 6 - 9. When installed at a door or gate, the Metreau Entry Communicator provides notification upon guest arrival - eliminating the need for a separate doorbell - along with one-way video and full-duplex, two-way audio communication, via any AMX Modero Touch Panel with intercom functionality installed in the home or building. And because the entry communicator includes I/Os and relays, doors and/or gates can be remotely unlocked, while sensors can be used to automatically announce arrivals or display their image - all from the same, convenient touch panel. Unlike traditional intercom and door stations systems, an unlimited number of Metreau Entry Communicators can be installed and used throughout a home or building, because the devices provide voice and video communications, along with control, via an IP (Internet Protocol) network. The Metreau Entry Communicator is available in two versions - one with a display and one without. The entry communicator without a display is weather resistant, enabling outdoor installation at an entry gate or front door exposed to the rain, while the entry communicator with a display adds the ability to provide personalised greeting messages, privacy notifications and other announcements, as well as a dual-colour LED light that provides notification when messages are displayed. For example, the Metreau Entry Communicator with Display can be installed in a hallway outside a hotel room or condo unit to notify housekeeping when privacy is requested or when services are needed, such as "make up room". When a message is displayed, the LED light on the entry communicator can be programmed to change from the standard yellow glow to red, alerting staff to a request. The display can also be used to provide personalised welcome greetings for guests. The Metreau Entry Communicator line reflects the sleek style of AMX's new Metreau Keypads and is available in six colour options to complement any dˇcor - polished brass, antique brass, stainless steel, brushed pewter, white and black. The Metreau Entry Communicator is a Power over Ethernet (PoE), IEEE 802.3af-compliant device. It is ideal for use with the new AMX PoE Injector (PS-POE-AF), a single-port, self-contained PoE power supply that delivers both DC power and data to any PoE-equipped device by "injecting" DC power through a Cat5 Ethernet cable. Availability and Model Numbers AMX expects the full line of Metreau Entry Communicators to be available by January 2008.
