News In-Stat Reports Fee-Based Remote Access Home Automation Shows Promise (17/9/2007) The market for fee-based remote access service to home automation and security systems in North America is modest, but has significant growth potential, reports In-Stat. The number of households paying a remote access fee to control or monitor their automation or security system in North America will grow an average of 25% annually from 2007 through 2011, the high-tech market research firm says. "Thus far, the tech-savvy and early adopter households are the ones with automation systems connected to a home network, and they are experiencing the first generation of new products," says Joyce Putscher, In-Stat analyst. "Early adopters can be more demanding of product capabilities, and first-generation products often have some bugs to work out." Recent research by In-Stat found the following: -- The number of home automation systems in use connected to a PC network will almost triple in four years. -- According to an In-Stat survey, renters are willing to pay more for remote access of their home automation and security than homeowners, even though renters, on average, have less income than homeowners. -- About 18.6% of US households subscribe to some kind of security system service. The research, "Tying Home Automation & Security to Home Networks in NA: Renters Willing to Pay More for Remote Access" (#IN0703445RC), covers the North American market for home automation and security. It provides North American five-year forecasts for the following: household penetration of home automation systems, households with remote access to an automation system, the number of home automation systems per household, the number of home automation systems in use, home automation systems connected to PC home networks, households with remote access to an automation system, remote access users paying a fee, average remote access monthly fees, and annual remote access service revenue. It also includes results from an In-Stat US consumer survey focused on home automation and security. The price is $3,495 (US).
