News PALME India Shows Progressive Integration from Pro and Residential (21/8/2007) Two of Europe's pro audio heavyweights have committed to this year's PALME India Show in October, as the installation sector continues to swell. Managing the event for show organisers IIR Exhibitions, James Raffoul, had earlier reported that the groundswell of pressure from manufacturers and distributors wishing to hit the fast-emerging Commercial and Residential Installation sectors in the region had forced a doubling of space at the Bombay Exhibition Centre (NSE Complex) in Mumbai - and companies such as NEXO (from France) and DAS (from Spain) have been quick to take advantage. NEXO are hoping that interest in their new GEO S12 series - which will be shown by distributors, Sun Infonet Pvt. Ltd - will be as positive as the response they received on their European debut (in Frankfurt) back in the spring. The GEO S1230 and GEO S1210 extend the company's successful GEO S Series of tangent-array loudspeakers, and are designed for both fixed and portable installations where high-performance cost-efficient foreground reinforcement is required. Paired with NEXO's proprietary design software GEOSoft2, the new building blocks in the scalable GEO S Series offer absolute predictability, and full integration potential with EtherSound networks. Although the new cabinets are aimed principally at the design and installation market - outdoors in stadia and arenas, indoors in nightclubs and live venues - they also offer mobile deployment options to PA companies, opening up new possibilities for the GEO S Series. The arrival of the S1230 and S1210 is accompanied by the launch of a dedicated GEO S12-TD controller, a relatively inexpensive model which has a streamlined feature set ideal for installation use. Another company hoping to carry forward their European success to the Indian sub-continent are Spanish company DAS Audio. The new PowerPro amplifier range consists of four models built in rugged 1U and 2U steel chassis. Engineered to meet demanding audio requirements and still remain within budget, both permanent installations and mobile applications are ideal candidates for the PowerPro series. The range comprises four models, denominated PS-200, PS-400, PS-800 and PS-1400. The PS-200 (12 kg) and PS-400 (13 kg) are 1 rack unit high and offer power ratings of 100W and 200W per channel @ 4 ohms respectively. The PS-800 (18 kg) and the PS-1400 (21 kg), largest of the line PowerPro line, are 2RU high and provide 450W and 700W per channel @ 4 ohms. The amplifiers offer XLR and 1/4 " TSR connectors for the inputs and both Speakon NL-4 and binding posts on the outputs (PS-800 and PS-1400 only). RESIDENTIAL MARKET REVS UP WITH THREE "LIFE SPACES" Meanwhile, over in the residential sector, AMX Control Systems India and ESCO Audio Visuals, India's biggest system integrators, are taking their 'smart home' automated control presentation into a new sphere. The original concept for a residential and commercial environment has now been defined to show the three life spaces where AMX systems can be used to take control in Home, Work and Education. Says AMX's Mike Gopal, "We will demonstrate efficient applications both in Hardware and Software formats. Using all the brands within AMX for the first time in India we will demonstrate a fully integrated technology suite. For technology partners we have also chosen leaders in their industry - for instance in the Home section you will see a specially designed suite by Bang and Olufsen integrated with AMX." Alongside the Home sector will be a cost-effective Education system, demonstrating a fully interactive teacher/student experience. Finally, the Work zone will take the form of 100% online collaborative suite with large-format display and video conferencing. Finally, promises Gopal, with today's need for portable and user-friendly interfaces, AMX/ESCO will have on hand the latest software application developed for AMX, which allows any standard AMX system to be controlled by a Windows-enabled mobile smart phone. Says James Raffoul, "This is the type of progressive approach which is indicative of the show in general. "A similar policy is being adopted in the Event 360 sector, where Modern Stage Service and Philips Lighting India are taking 240 metres to demonstrate a working sound stage, while outside will be a 'shoot-out' of industry leading line array loudspeaker systems. He also emphasised the wide scope of PALME India in providing a total technology forum. "At one extreme Laser Systems Europe from Belgium will be staging a spectacular laser display, while Pioneer will be promoting the art of the digital DJ/VJ via their new DVJ-1000 technology." Finally, the show has come under the focus of the international Audio Engineering Society (AES) and Event Management Development Institute (EMDI) who have pledged their allegiance to PALME India as support agencies. PALME India (formerly PALA India) will take place from 4-6 October 2007 at the Bombay Exhibition Centre (NSE Complex) Mumbai, India.
