News Digdia: Digital Home Realities Report (15/8/2007) The term "Digital Home" is often used by industry, but most consumers have no idea what one is. The exception is the owner of a home that brought in a member of CEDIA (Custom Electronic Design & Installation Association) to design and install electronic systems into the home. These homes can have a million dollars of electronics in them. Everything is controlled by wireless touch panels. While such homes are rare, the market that CEDIA members serve is a leading indicator of where all of consumer electronics is heading in the future. This market is also a nice segment for many consumer electronics manufacturers. This report focuses on two issues: * What are some of the strategic issues members
of CEDIA are going to be facing in the future? This report is based on comments and interviews from dozens of CEDIA members. The author also participated in the final installation phases of one of these homes.
