Dawn of a new Chorus - Chord replaces Chord Chorus interconnect cables (26/7/2007)

Chord replaces Chord Chorus after 10 years in continuous production

The Chord Company is on a roll. Not content with replacing the Chrysalis interconnect (part of Chord's product line since the company started), they are now replacing Chorus: one of the most striking and iconic interconnect cables.

Chorus has been part of Chord's product range since 1997. It has been at or near the top of the best sellers list since its launch. This fact only increased the challenge of designing an improved version. However, the advances Chord has made in the understanding and application of high performance shielding systems, and the very audible benefits they can bring, gave a very obvious upgrade path.

The central conductor remains silver-plated and Teflon insulated. Some of the character that made the original Chorus so popular was due to the unusually heavy gauge of the stranded conductors: this feature has been carried through to the new design. The shielding arrangement is borrowed from the award-winning Chord Signature RCA. The RCA plugs are Chord's own design and in common with the original Chorus plugs, are silver-plated. The distinctive red and black outer jackets have also been carried over to the new design.

The Chorus 2 is available terminated with either RCA or XLR connections, the heavy gauge conductors ensure that even in this new incarnation the Chorus is still not suitable for connection to DIN plugs.

The configuration of the advanced shielding system plays a large part in the increased performance of the Chorus 2. While many of the original of the original characteristics of the Chorus have been retained, the new shield system has dramatically reduced signal interference which has led to significant improvements in dynamics and resolution.

The bass performance for which the original Chorus was justifiably famed has been retained, but bass is more controlled, dynamic and tonally neutral with the Chorus 2.

One of the most popular combinations of interconnect and speaker cable in the Chord line-up has been the Chord Chorus in combination with Chord Odyssey speaker cable. The new Chorus 2 brings a lot more detail and coherence to this combination. These improvements also mean that the Chorus 2 combines extremely well with Chord Epic; Chord's new shielded speaker cable. This combination is capable of bringing some major improvements to the sound of almost any system.

The Chorus 2 is available in 1 and 0.5 metre lengths and the suggested retail is £250.00 for a 1 metre pair and £199.00 for a 0.5 metre pair. Chorus 2 is also available terminated with XLR plugs and in this configuration will retail for £270.00 and £219.00 respectively. Custom lengths are available to order.
