News JVC Front Projector Becomes First High-Definition Projector to Pass Simplay HD Testing (9/7/2007) JVC Products Verified for Interoperability by Simplay Labs Simplay Labs, LLC, the leading provider of testing technologies, programs and interoperability design standards for the high-definition (HD) consumer electronics industry, today announced that JVC's D-ILA High-Definition Home Theatre Projection System (DLA-HD1 Front Projector) is the first high-definition consumer front projector to pass the Simplay HD(TM) Testing Program. The Simplay HD Testing Program helps consumers identify HD components, such as HDTVs and next-generation DVD players, that will work together to provide a consistent "plug and play" user experience and maximize users' access to premium HD content. JVC's DLA-HD1 Front Projector, a "Full HD" (1920x1080p) projection system providing true black reproduction with the industry's highest "native" contrast ratio (15,000:1) through High-Definition Multimedia Interface(TM) (HDMI(TM)), underwent Simplay Labs' stringent testing for performance, robustness and interoperability. The native contrast ratio means that it does not rely on an iris mechanism to maximize contrast depending on the average brightness of one scene. Without proper testing, HD products may not always operate flawlessly together as there are many variables in implementing HD interface functions. Since compatibility is crucial for a rewarding consumer experience, Simplay Labs requires a thorough interface testing, as well as real-world compatibility testing. Based on real-life usage situations that consumers encounter with HD equipment, Simplay Labs' interoperability testing involves plugging devices into a suite of other HD devices available on the market. This suite of tests offers a thorough verification not found with other testing services. "We are committed to meeting the growing market need for consumers to enjoy HD content on large screens," said Michael Holmes, vice president of Consumer Display Division for JVC Company of America. "Simplay HD verification ensures interoperability among home theater components and gives our customers the confidence that JVC products will work faultlessly with other Simplay HD tested devices." "We are thrilled that JVC is leading the industry towards interoperability by taking steps to ensure that their products are Simplay HD verified," said Joseph Lias, president of Simplay Labs, LLC. "By participating in the Simplay Labs testing program, JVC provides consumers the peace of mind that their HD component products will work together properly, and should reduce instances of incompatibility between JVC products and other Simplay HD verified devices." JVC, which also has several other HD consumer electronic products undergoing Simplay verification, is one of more than two dozen manufacturers participating in the Simplay HD Testing Program. Some other member companies include Bose Corp., Hewlett-Packard Co., Samsung Electronics America, Inc., LG Electronics, Microsoft Corp., Pioneer Corp. and Yamaha Corporation.
