Sony expands AV receiver range with performance, convenience and connectivity (5/6/2007)

Three-model line-up offers automatic set-up, one-button system operation and connections for portable music players and wireless networks

Following the success of its ES range of receivers, launched last year and praised by reviewers across Europe, Sony is expanding its AV line-up with three new models: the STR-DG510, STR-DG710 and STR-DG910.

Combining simplicity of set-up and operation with enhanced connectivity and superb performance, yet selling at highly competitive prices, the new receivers are designed to form the perfect hub for any home entertainment system, and appeal to everyone from first-time flatscreen buyers to committed gamers. And thanks to the innovative DM Port system, users can even connect a mobile phone, Network WALKMAN(r) or computer to the receiver, and play the sound out through their speakers.

Sony engineers have designed the new models to be as simple as possible to use, without compromising sound quality. All three receivers Ð the STR-DG510, STR-DG710 and range-topping STR-DG910 Ð have fully automatic set-up to match the sound to the user's room and speaker layout, using the acclaimed Digital Cinema Auto Calibration system first seen in the ES receiver range.

They also offer one-cable connection between receiver and TV, via HDMI switching. Buyers of the STR-DG710 and STR-DG910 will also be able to control their whole Sony system Ð DVD player, receiver and TV Ð using one remote control, with the new Bravia Theatre Sync technology built into these models.

The receivers are designed to handle all current entertainment needs, while also being ready for the future. All three have HDMI switching, allowing multiple source components Ð DVD players or recorders, games consoles and digital TV boxes Ð to be connected and switched, meaning just one cable need to be run to the TV screen, keeping installations tidy.

The DIGITAL MEDIA PORT (DMPORT )system, using a variety of optional modules compatible with a single rear panel connector, will allow portable music devices and computers to be played through the receiver: Sony has modules for use with its Network WALKMAN players, as well as a Bluetooth module for use with Sony Ericsson WALKMAN phones and other compatible models, and a Wi-Fi unit to enable music stored on a computer to be streamed wirelessly to the receiver.

All three receivers set new standards for specification and features at their price levels: with the entry-level STR-DG510, Sony is bringing its fast, accurate Digital Cinema Auto Calibration system to a sector of the market where any such automatic set-up is rare.

Meanwhile the STR-DG910 has a range of facilities unusual even in much more expensive models, such as video upconversion and compatibility with the highdefinition audio now available on Blu-ray discs. And as you'd expect from Sony, it delivers superb audio and video performance developed through painstaking design and engineering and extensive tuning.

The three new models are:

STR-DG510: 5x100W, HDMI switching, DCAC automatic set-up, already available
STR-DG710: 6x100W, HDMI repeater, DCAC, DM Port connection, Bravia Theatre Sync, available May
STR-DG910: 7x100W, HDMI repeater/upconverter, Blu -ray audio ready, DM Port, Bravia Theatre Sync, available June
