Monitor Audio Debuts 'Controlled Performance' Models of Hi-Fidelity Architectural Speakers (29/5/2007)

Stand H8, CEDIA UK Expo 2007

With the revamped 'GS' 'RS' and 'BR' models, Monitor Audio offers three levels of improved performance to meet a range of challenges and budgets

In a world exclusive, stand H8 at the CEDIA UK Expo sees the introduction of Monitor Audio's new 'CP models.

Exploiting the potential of the new driver technologies developed for its most recent award-winning hi-fi speaker ranges, Monitor Audio has upgraded its 'Controlled Performance' line of hi-fidelity architectural speaker designs, to deliver class-leading performance in every room. As with all 'CP' speakers, the potential of their new driver combinations is optimised through the use of a rigid backbox, which ensures that their exceptional fidelity remains consistent in very application.

GS 'CP' Features

In the Gold Signature 'CP' in-ceiling/in-wall speakers, an improved 25mm gold C-CAM(r) (Ceramic Coated Aluminium Magnesium alloy) dome tweeter (pivoting for in-ceiling designs) is integrated with a new 61/2" mid-bass driver, which applies the latest Rigid Surface Technology (RST(r)II) to its C-CAM cone. In RST II, a regular pattern of tiny dimples on the cone's surface are designed to eliminate bending, increase stiffness and lower mass when compared with conventional cone driver designs. The result is a much faster response, offering music reproduction that is closer to the original performance. The new driver has a rigid die-cast metal chassis, which features a vented rear section and provides extremely low distortion with typically higher output levels.

Advanced software simulation has allowed us to optimise the tweeter design as well, bringing higher sensitivity and wider bandwidth to reveal the finest high frequency detail all the way up to 30kHz. We've developed a sophisticated new tweeter chamber with graduated damping which controls undesirable resonances for a smoother more accurate response.

Additional high frequency and mid-range frequency controls allow the user to set-up the system precisely to obtain optimum performance within the listening environment. This inherent flexibility makes the new GS CP In-ceiling/wall speakers suitable for a wider range of demanding applications than that offered by its competitors. It promises a truly 'high-end' performance from a custom installed speaker system.

RS 'CP' Features

For the new RS 'CP' models, the 61/2" C-CAM mid-bass driver has been further refined by Finite Element Analysis to give even more natural, transparent and accurate sound quality. The driver's non-magnetic cast polymer chassis damps residual energy and houses connections and magnet structure as a single unit with no screws or loose parts, improving consistency and reliability. The new 25mm gold C-CAM tweeter (pivoting for in-ceiling designs) offers an extended frequency response to 30kHz.

An additional high frequency control offers a fine-tuning option to allow the user to set-up the system precisely and obtain optimum performance within the listening environment. This additional flexibility makes the new RS CP in-ceiling and in-wall speakers suitable for a wider range of demanding residential and commercial applications.

BR 'CP' Features

For the new BR CP models, the evolution of the C-CAM tweeter (pivoting for in-ceiling designs) is matched by an advance in the mid-bass driver design. The new MMP(r)II driver benefits from a combination of detailed FEA analysis and improved material specification. A stronger driver chassis together with a more precise motor system provides greater accuracy and deeper, faster bass. The new chassis topology reduces unwanted rear reflections and the refined motor system allows the driver a far greater excursion without distortion.

Fitting CP

The easy-to-install CP loudspeakers will accommodate walls and ceilings whose thickness is between 9mm and 32mm. A secure fixing for the speaker/back-box is made by simply tightening the fixing clamps. Each CP speaker is supplied with a paintable grille, cut out template, two grille membranes (one for use during painting and the other as a clean replacement) and two spare baffle fixing screws

The virtues that have earned Monitor Audio's BR, RS and GS loudspeaker ranges acclaim from audiophiles around the world, are now combined in a complete custom-fit solution, which promises reliability and ease of installation every time. Custom installers can now rely on a new level of quality, flexibility and performance from Monitor Audio's improved 'CP' Series of in-ceiling and in-wall loudspeakers.

Approx retail prices:

In-Ceiling BR (CPC 6.5 BR) £100ea; RS (CPC 6.5 RS) £150ea; GS (CPC 6.5 GS) £300ea In-Wall BR (CPW 6.5 BR) £125ea; RS (CPW 6.5 RS) £175ea; GS (CPW 6.5 GS) £350ea
