Monitor Audio Debuts 'Directed Theatre' In-Ceiling Models at the CEDIA UK Expo 2007 (23/5/2007)

Stand H8, CEDIA UK Expo 2007

Stunning new design and driver technologies define a revelation in directed sound from in-ceiling speakers

Monitor Audio has chosen stand H8 at the CEDIA UK Expo for the world debut of its advanced 200 series of 'Directed Theatre' models.

With a combination of innovative design and proprietary driver technology, Monitor Audio's new aim-able in-ceiling speakers set the benchmark for performance, quality and utility in the CI market. The new C265LCR and C280LCR models employ a unique dual concentric 'eyeball' mid-range/ tweeter module, which provides up to 18 degrees of pivot for critical mid and HF frequencies. The speakers can be discreetly positioned and directed into the desired listening zone for maximum performance. Their open-back profile provides for simple installation within environments with restricted or unspecified fitting depth and high overall efficiency makes them easy to drive for a range of demanding applications.

The new models are true 3-way designs and offer superior performance and flexibility over typical 2-way or fixed angle speakers. Their unique 'eyeball' driver module houses a 4" C-CAM(r) mid-range driver and 1" (25mm) C-CAM gold dome tweeter operating in a completely sealed chamber to provide accurate damping and perfect acoustic alignment for crossover with the bass driver. It covers a wide frequency band from 250Hz to 30kHz producing a detailed HF response and clear vocal band intelligibility. A special inverted RST(r) profile cone has been developed for the mid driver to improve dispersion, whilst enabling the cone to be set as far forward as possible, allowing clear acoustic 'sighting' of the desired listening zone while eliminating un-desirable diffraction. The driver utilises an over-sized 38mm edge-wound CCAW voice coil to provide high overall power handling.

Low frequencies are reproduced by C-CAM bass drivers: the 61/2"design of the C265LCR extends down to 60Hz, the 8" design of the C280LCR to 50Hz. The use of C-CAM for all drivers preserves the integrity of the sound across the frequency spectrum.

To suit particular room characteristics or preferred listening tastes, the C265LCR and C280LCR offer ± 3dB of HF attenuation and boundary compensation control which smoothes bass response without affecting the lowest frequencies.

The C265LCR and C280LCR are easily installed by virtue of a patented Tri-Grip(r) fixing, which takes 25% less time to install than conventional 'four-dog' clamping speakers, and offers three times the clamping surface area for a better seal between speaker and ceiling. The Tri-Grip fixings are made from a tough polymer and will provide a secure fixing without over-tightening the screws, avoiding damage to speaker or ceiling materials

Aluminium alloy grilles offer rust-free performance and longevity. They are non magnetic, lighter in weight and offer better acoustic properties than steel grilles. Both models are paint-able to blend with the living environment. They use fire retardant materials specified to U.L-VO rating, are splash and humidity proof for installation in shower room or pool areas and feature dust protection covers that are designed to prevent the ingress of dirt or dust into the driver and crossover.

All driver technologies used in the new 200 series LCR 'Directed Theatre' models are developed from Monitor Audios' award winning hi-end audiophile speakers, which have been refined over the last 35 years. They provide synergy with Monitor Audio's other CI speakers and hi-fi/home theatre system ranges.
