News Chord launches Crimson interconnect (10/5/2007) Crimson is designed to replace both the Chord Calypso and Chord Chrysalis cables. Replacing the longest established interconnect in the Chord product line up and the entry level cable was a difficult decision: the knowledge gained from the advances in design, throughout the rest of the Chord range, meant that it was feasible to produce a high performance interconnect at an extremely competitive price. The Chord Crimson, when configured for use with RCA plugs, is a true semi-balanced design and like the Cobra 3 and the Indigo uses a full floating shield. This is unlike Chrysalis and Calypso which are both coaxial design cables Chord Crimson is constructed around two sets of multi stranded oxygen-free conductors in a twisted pair configuration, spaced with low density polyethylene. The conductors are insulated with low density polyethylene. Each conductor is surrounded by a lapped oxygen-free copper shield. Both the shields and conductors use the same gauge of copper conductor. The outer jacket is a combination of soft PVC internal with an extruded hard PVC outer casing. This produces a cable with excellent mechanical damping properties. The RCA plugs have been upgraded to the proven gold-plated design used on the Chord Cobra 3. The Crimson design reduces interference and mechanical noise and has a wider bandwidth. This makes the cable also ideal for use as a cost effective interconnect for both SACD and DVD audio. Crimson replaces one of the most versatile cables within the Chord range with another versatile cable design. The design allows Chord to terminate the cable with the same range of terminations that could be fitted to the Chrysalis. This versatility means that while the cable performs extremely well as a stereo pair, it can also be configured to produce an outstanding cable for subwoofers and, of course, can be fitted with a wide range of Din plugs. Retail prices: Crimson RCA to RCA pair 0.5 metre £34.95
