Siemens Showcase EIB/DALI Lighting Control for the Home (14/4/2007)

Siemens showcased the Digital Addressable Lighting Interface (DALI) system at this year's T3 Smart Home Show. The system brings innovative and proven technology from the commercial market place into the home environment.

DALI provides intelligent room based lighting management with up to sixteen different lighting levels programmed and stored within the Siemens EIB/DALI interface. As a dedicated protocol for lighting control, Dali is highly effective for scene selections and for receiving feedback with regard to any faulty light sources.

Hugh Whalley, Business Manager for Siemens GAMMA Intelligent Building Products, commented: "The move into the domestic market further strengthens the idea that DALI could revolutionise lighting control within the home within the next few years. Over the last twelve months the industry has seen lighting manufacturers develop the DALI ballast for a wide range of lamp types specifically designed for the home environment - this is an exciting time for the lighting industry."

DALI is a lighting specific protocol set out in the technical standard IEC 60929. It was established by a group of European ballast manufacturers (Osram a Siemens company being one of them) and is now recognised as the standard communication protocol for digital lighting control.
