New 3U Server Features Hot Spare Disk Cartridge for Unattended Recovery from Hard Drive Failure and Ability to Scale Up to 100 Terabytes of Data

Increased storage reliability and data protection, greater capacity and improved performance are the highlight features of the new 3U Server from Kaleidescape, Inc., the market leader in entertainment servers. Featuring the most capacity ever offered by a Kaleidescape Server, a three-unit rack-mount design, and a new Hot Spare Disk Cartridge for unattended recovery from hard drive failure, Kaleidescape provides greater peace of mind and more flexibility for its dealers worldwide.

Based on the proprietary Kaleidescape Entertainment Appliance Operating System (KEAOS), Kaleidescape products have changed the way movies and music are collected and enjoyed in a home, yacht or private jet. The System provides a compelling and easy-to-use interface, and can handle collections of DVD movies and audio CDs of any size. It automatically organises movie and music collections, protects them from loss and provides rich descriptive information for each DVD and CD. Once movies and music are stored on the Kaleidescape System, they can be enjoyed instantly in any Player-equipped room.

Features and Benefits of the New Kaleidescape 3U Server:

* Hot Spare Disk Cartridge for Unattended Recovery from Hard Drive Failure
The Hot Spare Disk Cartridge installed in the 3U Server provides an additional measure of data protection and is available as an immediate replacement should an active hard drive fail. If an active drive fails, the Server continues to operate, no content or user-entered data is lost and information that was on the failed drive is automatically restored to the hot spare. This eliminates the need for an urgent service call and provides peace of mind for marine and other remote installations.

* The Highest Storage Capacity of Any Kaleidescape Server
The Kaleidescape 3U Server dedicates one Disk Cartridge to RAID-K data protection and one to the hot spare. The 3U Server expands to a maximum of 14 Disk Cartridges, 12 of which can be used for storage (9 terabytes), and is capable of storing up to 1,340 DVDs or 15,000 CDs uncompressed. Capacity expansion is as simple as adding Disk Cartridges and grouping Servers in a single System. Kaleidescape grouping has been tested to scale to 12 Servers providing up to 100 terabytes of seamless data storage.

* Multi-zone Support
The Kaleidescape 3U Server supports up to 25 simultaneous independent video or audio zones, scaling to support even the largest and most complex installations.

* RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) Compliance
The 3U Server is RoHS compliant, meeting all of the requirements of the European directive that restricts the use of certain hazardous materials such as lead.

* Availability
The Kaleidescape 3U Server is fully compatible with all previous Kaleidescape products and may be added to any existing System. The new 3U Server is available for immediate delivery.
