Belden forms alliance with AirTight Networks to provide secure WLAN solutions (8/3/2007)

Belden has formed a new alliance with AirTight Networks to provide enterprises with comprehensive and secure WLAN solutions together with superior benefits and increased performance

International cabling supplier Belden and AirTight Networks of California have formed a strategic alliance. The purpose of the alliance is to capitalise on the synergy between the two companies and their products. Intensive testing has proved the seamless compatibility and interoperability, which can offer customers secure wireless mobility throughout the enterprise together with an unmatched level of WLAN performance.

Belden is world leader in signal transmission products for wired and wireless enterprise networks, as well as industrial, broadcast, residential and security markets. AirTight Networks is a leading provider of wireless intrusion prevention and performance (WIPPM) solutions.

Under the terms of the agreement, Belden will refer networking customers in need of wireless security measures beyond 802.11i and basic AP Rogue detection. Conversely, AirTight Networks can refer customer to the Belden Wireless Solution. the interference-free wireless LAN system designed for the seamless convergence of data, video and Voice over.

Belden's Wireless Solution

Belden's solution features a distinctive architecture that is fundamentally different from standard WLANs which use cell-based technologies requiring complex RF Cell Planning to avoid co-channel interference. Instead Belden uses a unique Channel Blanket topology. This has several benefits:-

¥ It allows each radio channel to be used everywhere at every access point
¥ It creates blankets of continuous wireless coverage with no roaming latency or co-channel interference problems
¥ High throughput is achieved even when cell traffic is high
¥ Full compliance with IEEE 802.1 1a/b/g protocol and security standards is maintained.

Bill Miller, Belden's Marketing Director for New Technologies says,' This alliance is very good news for our customers, especially today with their greater awareness of the urgent need to mitigate security risks and prevent unwanted intrusion into networks. These expanded options will protect the security of their data and their networks. Belden can now order solutions for enterprise networks of every size, whether wireless LANs or wired networks with numerous wireless access points - such as from remote field sales personnel or service representatives.'

AirTight's Award-winning Solution

The SpectraGuard Enterprise solution provides a robust, scalable and easy-to-manage wireless intrusion and performance management system. The solutions scale ranges from a single laptop to networks with millions of wireless devices. Various authoritative reports in 2006, including press reviews, show that the system outperforms competitors for several reasons:-

¥ It detects and correctly classifies wireless threats, while minimising false alarms
¥ It prevents multiple and simultaneous wireless threats, while continuing to scan for new ones
¥ It accurately locates the wireless threats on a floor map so that they can be removed.

David Canavan, Airtight Networks' vice president of Business Development says,' We are delighted to partner Belden. In the fast growing area of wireless networks, our complementary core products and service will enable us to provide better support to our enterprise customers. This will meet increasing customer demands for high performance, secure and reliable networking infrastructures and the very best completely integrated WLAN solutions.'
