LG Captures Top Position in Plasma Production (27/12/2006)
LG Electronics (LG), a worldwide leader in
consumer electronics, has captured the number one position in plasma
production during Q3 2006, according to global analyst firm Display
Search. Latest figures reveal that LG achieved a 33 per cent market
share during this period, with net sales of over 910,000 panels.
LG was able to achieve this strong growth
by increasing production capacity in Korea, adding a new production
line and increasing the efficiency of an existing line. This has
brought a 27 per cent increase in production from Q2.
Another major factor in gaining top position
has been the implementation of a new glass process that increases
the amount of glass that can be handled at one time. This enhancement
has improved productivity to over 550,000 plasmas each month. LG
estimates it will have produced 3,300,000 plasmas by the end of
the year.
James Atkins, marketing manager from LG comments,
"Having the highest plasma panel production capacity in the world
ensures that LG will continue to dominate the plasma market. High
rates of production help decrease costs so that LG can pass savings
onto consumers."
LG is further increasing its production to
cover a global market. To date four assembly plants have been established
in: Mexico (Reynosa), Poland (Mlawa), China (Nanjing) and Korea
(Gumi). The plants serve as a hub of supply and distribution for
North and South America, Europe and Asia.
LG Electronics expects the world plasma market
to reach 12 million units by the end of 2007 and grow to over 25
million units by 2010.
