CEA Publishes Recommended Practice for Audio Speaker Placement in Residential Environments (4/12/2006)

Recommended Practice to Benefit Audio Integrator and Installer

The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA(r))'s Audio Systems Committee published a new recommended practice, CEA-CEB17, "A Floor-to-Ceiling Guide for Residential Speaker Systems: Planning, Selection and Installation for Optimum Performance". This recommended practice is an informative reference for installers and audio integrators for the installation, application and placement of speakers in residential environments.

CEA-CEB17, when used in conjunction with ANSI/CEA-2030, Multi-Room Audio Cabling Standard, provides installers and integrators with a straightforward way to select and install speaker systems throughout a home to create a more enjoyable listening experience for the consumer.

"CEA's Technology and Standards committees continue to prove their dedication to growing the consumer electronics industry as well as providing a service to consumers," says Brian Markwalter, CEA vice president of technology and standards. "This recommended practice will aid in the proper installation of speakers in homes, ensuring that consumers get to enjoy the best listening experience possible."

"CEA-CEB17 will provide multi-room audio integrators and installers with easy-to-use instructions for the selection and installation of speakers," says Walt Zerbe, co-chair of CEA's Audio Systems Committee and chair of the multi-room audio working group and product manager, OnQ/Legrand. "CEA-CEB17 is meant to be used in conjunction with ANSI/CEA-2030, which defines cabling and connectors for use in distributing analog and digital audio signals throughout a home. Together, they provide detailed information for installers and integrators about how to wire, plan and install the audio equipment throughout a home."

The Audio Systems Committee is co-chaired by Ray Pace, senior design engineer, Audiovox Corp and Zerbe. Participation in CEA standards activities is open to companies and organizations with direct and material interest. CEA membership is not required to participate.
