ESTIA: Managing the intelligent home (27/11/2006)
Enhanced Networked Architecture for Personalised
Provision of AV Content within the Home Environment
(ESTIA) The newly launched project ESTIA
focuses on the design and development of technologies for managing
audiovisual content and white-goods functions in the home. The project
foresees a future time when all domestic audiovisual (AV) devices
will be integrated into one single network accessible from a single
device gateway, which users will be able to customise to their preferences.
ESTIA will develop strategies for localised audiovisual content
distribution, as well as ways to manage white goods such as the
fridge and the freezer. These will all be integrated into one network
where, based on user identity, the user will be able to manage the
whole system. Users can personalise home networking applications
such as entertainment and appliance control simply by setting the
service components located at the residential gateway. The project
is part of a greater EU initiative to explore and develop solutions
for future home network environments.
