Aiding self builders and home improvers: Schneider Electric provides information about electrical installations and smart home systems at Buildstore (31/10/2006)

New centre is a citadel for self builders

With significantly increasing numbers of people electing to build their own homes, Schneider Electric Residential Systems and Solutions is Partnering BuildStore, the UK's leading supplier to the self build, conversion and renovation market, in its establishment of the UK National Self Build and Renovation Centre in Swindon. The centre is a response to the fact that in the UK some 25% of new detached homes are self built.

In keeping with its vision of creating "a new electric world", Schneider Electric's participation in the BuildStore project will help novices and more established builders alike, to source information on smart home technology and electrical installation for lighting security and entertainment systems.

Visitors to the National Self Build and Renovation Centre will be able get a wealth of information. BuildStore, is a pioneering company that provides not only advice about building, but also access to available land and even to mortgages for projects. Indeed, BuildStore's CEO, Raymond Conner, has had the vision of creating a national advice centre for some years.

Schneider Electric not only provides impartial advice and information about electrical installations and home entertainment networks, but also displays working examples equipped with state of the art products from Clipsal and Square D, both brands of Schneider Electric.

"The centre also has a full size Potton house and five other exhibitions", said Conner. "We also have plant, groundworks, walls and roof structures, which are all displayed in an educational zone where visitors can learn more about self building", he added.

There is also an innovative 'Renovation Zone' - which includes a full sized house for people to walk through and witness a transformation from decrepit wreck to a fully renovated home.

"We are delighted by the partnership that Schneider Electric has chosen to establish with us. The company has a well known brand of innovative equipment for intelligent homes and will help to raise awareness about the type of products that are available on the market."
