Gennum Announces GS8101 HDMI/DVI Receiver (11/10/2006)
CEDIA US Expo 2006
Long ReachTM Technology to revolutionize
HDMI/DVI interfaces, enabling long cable length and robust digital
video and audio
Gennum Corporation (TSX: GND), a leading
provider of high-quality, professional video solutions, today unveiled
the GS8101 HDMI/DVI Receiver with Long ReachTM technology. Representing
the next generation of HDMI/DVI receivers, the GS8101 integrates
Gennum's renowned equalization technology with an HDMI 1.2a / DVI
1.0 / HDCP 1.1 dual-input receiver.
With high definition displays becoming the
standard for consumers, focus is now shifting towards native high
definition source content (1080i and 1080p) such as those offered
by HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. HDMI technology has facilitated the high
definition transition, rapidly becoming the preferred and often
only method for 1080p connectivity. The GS8101 provides the next
step in the HDMI evolution by removing the cable length barrier
imposed on installations.
"The GS8101 addresses many of the concerns
facing consumers and the industry regarding HDMI and DVI interfaces,"
said Craig Thompson, Manager Product Marketing, Image Processing
Products at Gennum. "The GS8101 allows consumers to use much longer
lengths of cabling - up to 30 metres at 1080p, 45m at 1080i/720p
and greater than 55m at 480p - without video or audio degradation.
The GS8101 provides the highest level viewing experience for discerning
consumers and AV professionals."
Operating up to UXGA the GS8101 supports
all standard and high definition DTV resolutions defined in EIA/CEA-861-B
and all graphic display standards ranging from VGA to UXGA. Multi-channel
audio extraction of up to 8 channels is supported based on IEC60958
or compressed audio formats based on IEC61937. Maximum flexibility
is offered with RBG_YCbCr colour space conversion, 4:2:2_4:4:4 sample
rate conversion and 1- or 2-pixel per clock output modes. The GS8101
conserves power with power down and output mute functions, and has
user-customizable features including tunable input termination resistors
to improve input return loss matching.
"HDMI/DVI receivers like the GS8101 need
to be able to handle a variety of different applications and formats,"
said Thompson of Gennum. "Up to now a number of issues, including
cable length restrictions, poor cable quality and robustness at
higher resolutions have held back the widespread use of HDMI and
DVI. This product was created to enable long cable length, flexibility
and signal robustness."
