Philips Ambilight HDTV FlatTV is named European high-end LCD TV of the year (29/8/2006)

Philips has won prestigious recognition for its leadership in flat display technology by winning European Imaging & Sound Association (EISA) awards for two of its FlatTV(TM) sets - European High-End LCD TV, 2006-2007 for the Philips Cineos 37PF9731D, and European Green TV of the Year for the Philips 42PF7621D.

These latest EISA awards are, respectively, the eighth and ninth won by Philips for FlatTVs and FlatTV technologies in the ten years since Philips unveiled its first FlatTV in August 1996. The awards are also the 15th and 16th respective EISA TV titles won by Philips in the 14 years EISA has been holding its annual awards.

European High-End LCD TV, 2006-2007

In naming the Philips 37PF9731D Cineos FlatTV with Ambilight(TM) Surround high-end LCD TV of the year, the EISA judges have highlighted Philips' expertise in the emerging high definition TV market.

The 37PF9731D delivers the ultimate HDTV viewing experience by applying several key Philips technologies such as Pixel Plus(TM) 3HD and Clear LCD(TM) combined with a true 1920x1080-pixel LCD panel. EISA's award citation notes how the set "Éimpressive picture qualityÉ" with both HD and standard definition signals with the visual experience "Éenhanced further by Philips' next-generation Ambilight Surround illuminationÉ". EISA judges also praised the set's user-friendly set-up procedure, noting that "Éeverybody can take advantage of the best performance this sophisticated television can offerÉ" as a result.

European Green Television, 2006-2007

As part of its policy on environmental sustainability, Philips has committed its businesses to developing so-called 'green flagships' in each of its product ranges. One such example is the Philips 42PF7621D FlatTV, named European Green Television of the Year by EISA.

The EISA judges were impressed by this HD-ready plasma TV's very low power consumption Ð "Éan impressive 15% less than that of its nearest competitor for EISA's Green Award." EISA also praised the construction of the set, which allows for easy end-life disassembly, enabling recyclable components and other elements to be separated for processing or safe disposal.

Commenting on the awards, Reinier Jens, Executive Vice President & General Manager, Philips Consumer Electronics Region Europe, said: "The EISA judges have positively recognised our efforts in pushing the boundaries of the FlatTV viewing experience. Winning High End LCD TV of the Year is a huge endorsement for our approach to product design, especially in developing sets that maximize the benefits of HDTV. Winning Green TV of the Year is also a major endorsement to our commitment to creating TVs that will deliver great benefits at the end of their lives as much as they delivered a great viewing experience during usage."
