Ubicom Technology Selected by D-Link for Award-Winning
SECURESPOT Internet Security Adapter for Home Networks (18/8/2006)
Ubicom, Inc., a leading provider of communications
processor and software solutions, today announced that its high-performance
processor and Intelligent Stream Handling technology are built into
the new SECURESPOT desktop security appliance now shipping from
D-Link, the end-to-end networking solutions provider for consumers
and business.
The unique physical device acts as a gatekeeper
for the home, providing parental controls and many network security
features, including firewall, anti-spyware, content filtering and
anti-virus software to protect real-time interactive applications.
SECURESPOT, the winner of the Best of CES
2006 award, is now available from D-Link for $99.99, which includes
four user licenses and a one-year subscription. After the first
year, the annual fee is $79.99. Additional licenses are $19.95 each.
Ubicom's Intelligent Stream Handling technology
enables the SECURESPOT appliances with quality of service (QoS)
mechanisms that allow real-time interactive traffic, such as gaming,
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), instant messaging and video
conferencing, to automatically be given the appropriate priority
when other users and applications use the network. Intelligent Stream
Handling also minimizes the impact of large-packet, lower priority
traffic on latency-sensitive traffic and eliminates delays caused
by DSL or cable modem connections.
According to Daniel Kelley, director of marketing
for D-Link Systems, Inc. in Fountain Valley, CA, "our joint development
partnership with Ubicom means added value to SECURESPOT customers
who are able to experience the benefits of top-of-the-line processing
performance and QoS -- without added costs of complicated installations."
In addition, SECURESPOT runs on Ubicom's
IP3000 series processor that delivers the highest performance in
its price class, said Keith Morris, vice president of marketing
for Ubicom. "All of our processors are optimized for packet processing
and are designed specifically for real-time tasks and low latency.
In this application they do not require external DRAM, so are cost-effective
and more efficient than other processors available today."
"We are happy to have been able to partner
with D-Link to develop this award-winning device," Morris said.
"While D-Link focused on ensuring all the right features and capabilities
were included in the device, our goal was to ensure SECURESPOT customers
could take full advantage of Ubicom's proven performance and security."
