Silicon Image Expands HDMI and Simplay HD Testing
in China (28/7/2006)
Silicon Image, Inc. (NASDAQ:SIMG), a leader
in semiconductors for the secure storage, distribution and presentation
of high-definition content, today announced the official opening
of China's second High-Definition Multimedia Interface(TM) (HDMI(TM))
Authorized Testing Center (ATC) in Shanghai, and announced plans
to open China's third HDMI ATC at a location to be determined. These
centers will complement existing test centers in Sunnyvale, California
and in Shenzhen, China. In addition, Silicon Image plans to open
additional testing centers in Europe and Taiwan.
Both new HDMI ATCs will be co-located with
Simplay HD(TM) Testing Centers. The Simplay HD(TM) Testing Program
consists of branding, compatibility testing, and education for consumers
to provide them with a consistent "plug and play" user experience
and to maximize their access to premium high-definition content.
The new testing centers, adding to the existing
HDMI and Simplay HD facilities in Shenzhen, will make it easier
and faster for Chinese consumer electronics manufacturers to bring
HDMI products to market, whether for domestic sale or export. HDMI
adoption is growing rapidly in China. There are currently 82 HDMI
adopters in China, up from 10 at the start of 2005. More information
on the Shanghai testing center may be found at shanghai.hdmi-atc.com
.
The expanded testing capability is one of
three major announcements made today by Silicon Image, the China
Video Industry Association (CVIA) and Silicon Image's wholly-owned
subsidiary, HDMI Licensing, LLC. As part of their agreement, Silicon
Image and CVIA will cooperate in establishing testing and interoperability
certification labs in China.
HDMI ATCs test for compliance with the HDMI
specification. The Simplay HD Testing Program provides a broader
suite of testing services for HDMI products, including enhanced
testing of content protection technology and interoperability, as
well as testing for compatibility with a suite of other devices
that have passed the Simplay HD Testing Program. Products that have
demonstrated adherence to the Simplay HD(TM) Test Specification
in testing by Silicon Image's wholly-owned subsidiary, Simplay Labs,
LLC, can be identified with the Simplay HDTM logo and are listed
on the Simplay HD website.
"As Chinese consumer electronics manufacturers
rapidly increase their production of HDMI devices, they need convenient
access to compatibility testing facilities to ensure the best possible
experience for their end users," said Steve Tirado, president and
CEO of Silicon Image. "Our expanded HDMI testing capabilities in
China, including the new Simplay HD Testing facility in Shanghai,
will help Chinese manufacturers ensure their products are plug-and-play
compatible with other high-definition devices worldwide."
