Speakercraft's TIME Motorised Ceiling Speaker will Change the Face of Home Theatre Installations (9/6/2006)

Stand C4, CEDIA UK Expo 2006

Radical TIME(r) loudspeaker will advance, rotate and retract at a ceiling location according to a range of presets

SpeakerCraft, America's original manufacturer of in-wall speakers announces an innovative new series of in-ceiling loudspeakers, which will greatly enhance the flexibility and performance of home theatre installations.

Unique in concept and revolutionary in design, the Theatre In Motion Experience (TIME) series of in-ceiling speakers represents the most dramatic advance in custom audio since SpeakerCraft invented the in-wall speaker. Introducing automation to the genre, it transforms the ability of in-ceiling speakers to focus sound, and in so doing creates a new class of architectural speaker, which combines the virtues of ceiling and room speakers in a single unit.

The three new motorised TIME speakers mount flush with the ceiling. When activated however, they automatically advance from the ceiling at angles 15, 30 and 45 degrees, and rotate to any position in order to create a customised soundstage for any theatre or music application. Speaker angle and rotation is controlled by remote through the TIME Command Unit or TCU: a component size controller, which provides low voltage power and data to the speakers and resides with the source equipment and amplification. Multiple presets are provided to address a near infinite range of seating locations together with music and theatre soundstage preferences. The preset commands can be transmitted to any learning remote or control system for the ultimate in user convenience.

The two-way TIME One, TIME Three and TIME Five speakers feature driver complements identical to the AIM 8 models One, Three and Five, having 8" polypropylene, aluminium and Kevlar bass drivers respectively and 1" concentrically mounted dome tweeters in silk, aluminium and aluminium/magnesium.

"To say this is a unique solution would be an understatement." remarks Jeff Francisco, SpeakerCraft's Vice-president of Engineering. "We are constantly looking for ways to improve the sonic performance of flush-mounted loudspeakers. This is clearly a huge leap forward."
