Meridian Shows HD Processor and Projector, and High-End
Installation Speakers (1/6/2006)
Stand E7, CEDIA UK Expo 2006
Showing the fruits of its development tie-up
with Faroudja announced last summer, Meridian is now shipping two
brand new high-end digital video projector/processor combinations
called 'MF1 and 'MF2.
Both the flagship D-ILA1080MF1 projector
and its more affordable stablemate, the D-ILA1080MF2 are 'full spec
HD' devices employing three 1920x1080 chips for smooth, flicker-free
high resolution images with no visible grid. Meridian calibrates
each projector individually in its UK factory using proprietary
firmware, techniques and optical equipment employed in a newly-constructed
calibration laboratory at the company's Huntingdon facility. The
partnering video processor for these native 1080p D-ILA projectors
is Meridian's Faroudja DVP1080MF, containing the entire suite of
Faroudja's patented technologies for colour reproduction and motion
adaptive de-interlacing with DCDi and 3:2 pulldown, upconverting
standard analogue and digital inputs to a high-resolution, HDCP-compliant
1080p signal transmitted via DVI-D to the projector(s). Meridian
boasts 'cinema-quality pictures with film-like authenticity' from
these projector/processor combinations, with professional-standard
greyscale reproduction, superior colour performance with true D65
colour temperature, and near-perfect white field uniformity to provide
optimal picture reproduction from projector to projector.
Also new from Meridian is a series of high-end
installation speakers, designed to deliver high fidelity sound in
rooms where the use of free-standing loudspeakers is impossible
or inappropriate. Over two years in development, the 300 Series
of in-wall and on-wall loudspeakers are available with or without
crossovers, the active models being driven by an accompanying active
crossover unit called G41. G41 is an eight channel power amplifier
(8 x 100W into 8 Ohms) with modular active crossovers, configured
via cards supplied with each speaker. Typical for Meridian, attention
to detail is evident in the G41's amplifiers having a negative output
impedance, to help minimise the adverse effect of the typically
long runs of speaker cables that are inevitable in custom installations.
A rear-panel selector switch provides two settings: 'short' (less
than 10 metres) and 'long'. Further attention to detail is shown
by the fact that the in-wall models are available with white cloth
grilles and surface grilles for painting, or they are available
in 'flush mount' versions - without grilles - facilitating custom
wall surface treatments in bespoke custom installations.
