CEDIA-Sponsored 'House of the Future...Today' Shapes
up for Grand Designs Live! (30/5/2006)
CEDIA (the Custom Electronic Design & Installation
Association) is drawing on the widespread and generous support of
its membership to create the 'House of the Future... Today' - an
inspirational, centrepiece attraction at this year's Grand Designs
Live event (2-4 June, ExCeL London).
Located at the heart of the GRANDInteriors
Hall, the 'House of The Future...Today' is a three room house that
will act as a showcase for the modern, intelligent home. During
the course of Grand Designs Live, trained actors will put the various
technologies through their paces as they move through different
areas of the house, demonstrating the benefits of an integrated
electronic lifestyle to visitors. The feature has been designed,
built and equipped thanks to the time, skills and equipment provided
by CEDIA members.
"'The House of the Future...Today' is two
things" says David Hyman, Chair of CEDIA. "It is a window into the
way that some of us live now. And a vision of the way that we will
all live in the future. Visitors to the feature will be able to
see and aspire to the exciting lifestyle possibilities afforded
by integrated electronic technology that's immensely powerful, impressively
versatile, reassuringly reliable and beautifully concealed."
The 'House of the Future...Today' highlights
these benefits in a unique way. It will show how a hi-fi system
can breathe beautiful music into every room through unseen loudspeakers;
how a home cinema can be far better visually and audibly than the
local multiplex, where curtains close, temperature adjust and the
lighting dims automatically; how telephones, security systems, irrigation
systems, lighting, heating and air conditioning systems can be operated
via a simple touch-screen panel. All this and much, much more is
now possible with 'The House of the Future...Today'.
"The CEDIA 'House of the Future... Today'
is an integral part of Grand Designs Live 2006" adds Kevin McCloud,
presenter of TV's Grand Designs. "I am very much looking forward
to finding out about CEDIA and the services its members can offer
in delivering technology that's reliable, easy to use and will improve
the life of all homeowners".
CEDIA members involved in the system design,
programming, engineering and integration of the 'House of the Future...Today'
include, Clever Association, Grahams Hi Fi, Intelligent Home Systems,
Martin Kleiser and SMC.
Last year's Grand Designs Live attracted
over 40,000 visitors. All CEDIA members are invited to the event
to come and see the feature when the show opens on Friday 2nd June
at ExCeL London. Every CEDIA member is entitled to receive one complimentary
ticket to attend the event.
