Philips 42PF9631D: Optimised HD viewing experience
gives Philips the edge (15/5/2006)
The 42PF9631D represents Philips most advanced
plasma TV to date, utilising the very latest generation 1,024 x
1,080i ALiS panel and also equipped with unrivalled image processing
and motion compensation Ð promising the best possible picture quality
available with plasma technology.Ê
The HD-Ready 42PF9631D is Philips' first
plasma TV to feature a 1,024 x 1,080 panel, ideal for displaying
a 1,080-line high definition picture at its optimal resolution.
Philips' acclaimed Pixel Plus 2 HD engine
makes its debut on a plasma set with the 42PF9631D and the system's
higher processing power delivers greater precision so that even
high definition footage can be improved. Through interpolation,
the Pixel Plus 2 HD matches the input source to the display's resolution
and then - via LTI Ð adjusts the values of the interpolated pixels
to 'fuse' more accurately with surrounding ones, drastically boosting
sharpness and detail clarity.
In addition, the Pixel Plus 2 HD engine employs
a unique reduction system for MPEG noise, blocking and quantization
to produce clean and natural images.
Significantly, Philips is still the only
TV manufacturer to successfully combine resolution enhancement with
motion compensation courtesy of the Digital Natural Motion system.
Motion compensation is essential if movies - shot at 24 frames per-second
Ðare not to suffer from judder.
In another first, the 42PF9631D is Philips'
first plasma TV to feature a MPEG artefact meter, which measures
the quality of the incoming signal and varies the level of processing
accordingly - and ensuring that SD feeds are not 'over' processed.Ê
While delivering unrivalled picture quality,
Philips also guarantees the ultimate viewing experience thanks to
its ambient backlighting technology, Ambilight which has been proven
to reduce eye-strain and improve perceived picture quality. The
42PF9631D is also the first Philips plasma TV to feature Ambilight
2, which provides a two-channel effect which independently projects
lighting from the sides of the screen, allowing the colour and intensity
to accurately match on-screen content.
Output levels are fully-adjustable to suit
personal preferences with the system offering four preset viewing
models and a mono option, while Ambilight can even be left on when
the TV is turned off to create a unique ambience in a room.
Featuring a new contemporary stylish design,
the 42PF9631D offers an equally slick user-interface which includes
a Settings Assistant that simplifies the calibration process, allowing
the user to choose from various split-screen picture, audio and
Ambilight options to accurately optimise settings.
Connectivity is also much-improved with this
new addition to the Philips plasma range and includes two HDMI and
two RGB Scart sockets, component video input and USB functionality.
