Mirage introduces new OM Design series high-end loudspeakers (7/4/2006)

Mirage Loudspeakers, a division of Audio Products International, today announced the release of their new state of the art flagship loudspeakers Ð the OM Design series.

Mirage Loudspeakers is world renowned as a designer and manufacturer of the finest high-end loudspeakers in the industry. Mirage is famous for introducing revolutionary products like the M1, the worldÕs first bipolar speaker. The introduction of the new OM Design series sets yet another milestone for Mirage, proving our commitment to develop loudspeakers that reproduce audio in the most natural fashion.

The OM Design series is the worldÕs first true high-end OMNIGUIDE based loudspeaker series. Andrew Welker, MirageÕs Head Engineer and his design team were given the challenging task of stretching the limits of OMNIGUIDE technology. OMNIGUIDE technology was introduced in 2001 and was designed by Andrew Welker to allow a loudspeaker to radiate sound in a completely uniform 360-degree pattern. This dispersion pattern perfectly mimics the way sound is created in life, and therefore reproduces the most natural playback Ð a characteristic that sets OMNIGUIDE based speakers apart from conventional forward radiating designs. Four additional years of continuous research and development have resulted in a loudspeaker series that does not just stretch the limits of OMNIGUIDE technology, but completely redefines it. The result is the astonishing OM Design series, truly capable of creating the ultimate illusion of a live performance.

The OM Design series flagship is the OMD-28 floorstanding speaker. Finished in exquisite hand made real wood veneer curved cabinets, the OMD-28 combines uncompromised 2-channel audiophile performance with the benefits of OMNIPOLAR technology. The OM Design series also features a unique 3-way center speaker (OMD-C2) and a bipolar rear channel (OMD-R). Combine the OMD-28 with the OMD-C2 and the OMD-Rs to create an amazing home theater system guaranteed to please any home theater enthusiast. All models in the OM Design series have the same state of the art drivers which feature the latest in engineering and high-tech materials. All drivers and components used for the OM Design series have been designed by Mirage engineers and are custom made to guarantee superior performance. The woofer and midrange cones are made of woven carbon fiber and are mated to MirageÕs patented Ribbed Elliptical Surround technology. The Ribbed Elliptical Surround technology was invented to guarantee linear inward and outward travel of the woofer, increased cone area and increased excursion. The patented Ribbed Elliptical Surround technology applied to the new OM Design woofers and midrange drivers allows the OM Design speakers to reproduce a level of sonic detail and accuracy unlike anything ever experienced. These revolutionary drivers are housed in exquisite heavily braced curved MDF cabinets.

The OMD-28 features dual 8-inch multi layer woven carbon fiber woofers, one 5.25" multi-layer carbon fiber/fiberglass hybrid midrange with underhung motor system and MirageÕs chambered 28mm titanium dome tweeter. It uses two downward firing ports to utilize the space between the bottom of the cabinet and the stylish high gloss base as a loading surface to further enhance low-end performance. This ingenious design allows the OMD-28 to reproduce incredibly low frequencies at stunningly high volume levels without sacrificing dynamics. With a frequency response of 25Hz Ð 20kHz +/- 3db and a usable low frequency response of 18Hz (-10dB anechoic), the OMD-28s are sure to fill out even the largest rooms with incredible bass. High power handling and the ability to triwire/ tri-amp complete this illustrious speaker package. Incredible craftsmanship is needed to manufacture and finish the beautiful curved wood veneer cabinets. It takes an average of 35 days to build and hand lacquer each of the 46.5Ó tall, 11Ó wide and 13-inches deep cabinets in order to ensure the flawless finish of each cabinet. Available finishes include high gloss piano black, real wood hand lacquered high gloss rosewood and the extravagant real wood hand lacquered burled maple. The manufacturers suggested retail price for the OMD-28s is $3,750 US each. The matching center channel, the OMD-C2 has a suggested retail price of $ 2,000US each and the OMD-R rear channel retails for $1,000 US each. Limited quantities will be available at selected dealers commencing in April 2006. The OMD-28 will debut at the Festival de Son & Image in March 2006 with the first public live presentation of these speakers.
