Unipalm catches home networking bug with Global Caché (2/3/2006)

Leading distributor brings a new generation of out-of-the-box home automation networking, opening up new opportunities for the channel

Unipalm, a COMPUTERLINKS company, the UK and Ireland's foremost specialist distributor of internet technology solutions, has signed a distribution agreement with Global Caché to bring the channel an easy-touse solution to network all electrical appliances, creating a totally automated environment for homes and businesses.

"We believe that Global Caché's line of products is going to be an important part of the solutions we offer," explains John Turner, head of multi-media networking at Unipalm. "The ability to communicate with previously isolated devices, such as DVD players and projectors, via a network is a huge bonus for our automation and control solutions in the residential and business markets. The simplicity and flexible design of Global Caché's flagship network adapter, as well as the very competitive pricing, is going to be incredibly attractive to our channel."

Global Caché's flagship product, the GC-100 Network Adapter, is designed to connect the most commonly used devices and appliances that otherwise could not be connected to a network. The network adapter provides the means for PC-based home automation and management software to access, control and deliver services in a networked home or business, with devices such as remote control (Projectors, TVs and stereos), serial (security systems, pool and spa), relay (shutters/blinds, sprinkler systems) and any other infrared devices (IR) can be connected via one box. Global Caché also supplies IR learning devices, IR receivers, and sensors.

"Partnering with Unipalm to represent us in the UK and Ireland is an important step for our business," says Robin Ford, Global Caché VP of business development. "Unipalm has the channel commitment, the reach and the support structure to take us to the next step in penetrating both business and residential markets. The fact that they are owned by COMPUTERLINKS offers even more opportunities for growth into the rest of the European market. This is a really important development for us and our international customers."
