European Independent Programmers Council is Born (2/3/2006)

InfoComm International members have got together to form a European Independent Programmers Council (EIPC).

Modelled on the independent council that has been operational in the USA for some years, the idea of the body is to 'serve the needs and interests of systems programmers who are not employed by hardware vendors or integrators', says the EIPC. Its aims are to 'raise the status of independent programmers, provide collective feedback to vendors, define standards of practice and share professional resources', and it intends to set up sub-committees which will look at membership criteria and standards of practice.

Participants at the first meeting, held during ISE, included programmers from Belgium, Germany and the UK.

'All programmers involved with MAX, Crestron, Vity, Extron, Medialon, Cue, Request, Xantech, Clear One, Lutron and others are welcome to join', said Joël Van Vlasselaer of Belgian programming company Gator International.

Mission :

To serve the needs and interests of systems programmers who are not employed by hardware vendors or integrators. The Council seeks to raise the stature of Independent Programmers in the industry, provide collective feedback to vendors, define standards of practice and share professional resources.

Future/Long-Term Activities and Goals:

¥ Council will identify independent programmer business issues
¥ Council will liaison with other pertinent InfoComm International councils on matters of mutual interest
¥ Subcommittees will address industry relations, membership criteria and standards of practice
