iLight Goes Beyond Lighting Control (6/2/2006)

iLight, a leader in smart-home lighting control has expanded the capability of its system to offer home owners a cost-effective way to have total control of their home, including lighting, audio visual, heating and other systems.

Key to the new system is a Mini Touch Screen which offers a user-friendly way to control a wide range of functions in an individual room or as a central control for the whole home. This unobtrusive device is suitable for use throughout the home, replacing multi-button control plates with a high definition graphical user interface. When located in the master bedroom, kitchen or by the front door for example, the Mini Touch Screen can be used to control lighting anywhere within the home or outside.

The Mini Touch Screen provides a virtually limitless flexibility of system configuration and control. The unit is completely software based and can be tailored to suit the needs of the user. Building plans, photos and 3D graphics can all be used to customise the display to meet individual tastes or themes within the home. Working closely with users requirements the iLight team can create a bespoke, ergonomic and easy to use interface - no matter how simple or sophisticated the control system needs to be.

With the addition of the new System Integrator Node you can turn the lighting control system into a home automation system. In a home cinema environment, use of these two products allows control of audio, video, blinds, projection screen etc from a single, easy to use and compact source, alleviating unsightly "wall clutter" where different systems have previously required users to have multiple panels.

Built into the touch screen is a time-clock that can be used to drive any home system, including security settings to close curtains and turn on lights to make an empty home look occupied at night. This feature offers peace of mind for those returning to or within the home.

iLight has extensive experience in providing integrated solutions, and through partnerships with all the main home system suppliers can provide complete automation at the touch of a button.

Finally, the new Ethernet Gateway from iLight takes lighting and total home control to a whole new level. The device allows engineers to control and configure the iLight system from a PC rather than connecting directly to the control network (via a LAN or Wireless network). On Wireless networks they can walk around the home with the owner to immediately see the results of their lighting programming.

The Ethernet Gateway also facilitates connection to the internet. Where a firewall, ISP and Ethernet hub are installed the gateway allows a remote connection to the control system. Adjustments, new system components and new scenes can all be addressed off site without disturbing the occupiers.

Similarly, it allows homeowners to access their home systems when they are away from the property. Systems can be programmed to give the feeling of occupation when the home is empty and lighting, heating etc can be set to create a welcoming ambience for when owners return home.

With the additional of all three products both installers and home owners can achieve total home automation from their desktop, wherever they may be.
