Gefen Unveils Three Wireless Prototypes for USB and
HDTV Cable-Free Extension (6/2/2006)
In a major strategic move to offer cable-free
extension up to 10 meters in distance, Gefen reveals three new wireless
prototypes at IS Europe that demonstrate a rapid, instantaneous
transfer of data with no cables required.
Gefen's Wireless HDMI Extender is a first-of-its-kind
cable-free transmitter that supports the extension of high definition
video at its highest resolutions. The sender/receiver system uses
radio based frequency transmission to send HDCP compliant HD video
up to 10 meters from source to HDTV display. No cabling is required
to achieve an extraordinary replication of image and sound on the
receiving end. It is designed to provide a cutting-edge alternative
to cable-based extension solutions for home theaters and other small
size environments, and plans are in development for models that
support DVI devices and component video.
Gefen's Wireless Video Extender provides
a cable-free solution for existing audio/video components equipped
with composite and/or s-video connections. Full audio support is
provided through the same sender and receiver system. Based on 802.11a
standards, the unit enables cost-effective, high-bandwidth wireless
transmission capable of penetrating walls and floors without interference.
This high-performance unit is simple to install, and is capable
of delivery video at rates up to 24Mbs.
Gefen's Wireless USB Extender supports the
cable-free transfer of data using Freescale Semiconductor's Ultra-Wideband
wireless solution combined with Icron Technologies Extreme USB.
In operation, small sender and receiver units are connected to the
computer and the extended USB device. No cables are needed to deliver
data from the sender to the receiver, which can be connected to
cameras, keyboards, printers or any USB 2.0 device-up to 30 feet
from the computer.
The company plans to announce ongoing developments
as well as product availability throughout Q1 and Q2 of 2006.
