EmpireDirect.co.uk Launches EDTV to Offer Expert Advice (13/12/2005)

Today's announcement of a new online TV service by leading online electrical retailer www.EmpireDirect.co.uk is set to deal a new blow to the high-street in the wake of research suggesting increasing numbers of shoppers will flock to their computer screens rather than their own town centres in a bid to avoid the 'Christmas rush'.

The innovative service called EDTV (Empire Direct Television), is the first of its kind in electronic retail both online and in the high-street. Broadcasting expert knowledge directly from top manufacturers, the service's major impact on high-street shoppers will be that they will no longer need to travel afar to stand in a queue waiting for a product to be demonstrated in-store.

Because EmpireDirect have enlisted expert representatives from manufacturers like Sony and Sharp, one of EDTV's major advantages is being able to deliver an authoritative 5-minute feature on the product, answering comprehensively decision-making questions which can be watched time and time again.

Allowing viewers to take their time over a purchase in this way, EDTV puts forward a welcome alternative to the rushed demonstration or 'pushy salesperson' which they might encounter in a busy retail store. By providing a leisurely one-stop-shopping experience, the service is able to minimise the chance of customer dissatisfaction and subsequent return of goods which delivers the 'personal touch' online retail has been crying out for.

The initiative comes as an extra blow to high street retailers who have suffered decreasing sales figures in recent years. Contrastingly, online shopping is predicted to rise 12% during the lucrative Christmas season.

According to new research, UK Shoppers are relying more and more on the internet for gift buying this year with the most popular search items including 'iPod', ' Samsung d600', and 'Playstation Portable'.

Managing Director of EmpireDirect.co.uk, Manohar Showan said "People are 24/7 these days, therefore they need a shopping environment that caters for their specialist needs. EDTV is the natural follow-on to this, delivering trusted, authoritative information on products people want to buy. EDTV can be looked at anytime, anywhere and at people's own leisure and is the first in a number of forthcoming first innovations by EmpireDirect.co.uk"

EDTV has now launched on EmpireDirect.co.uk.
