Control a world of home entertainment with Philips' Pronto remote control systems (13/12/2005)

ISE 2006

Showcased at the 2006 Integrated Systems Europe Fair (ISE), Philips is expanding its award-winning Pronto(tm) family with the new RU990, RU960 and LI910. Combining the functions of multiple remote controls in one sleek design, the RU990 and RU960 simplify consumers' entertainment experience while providing advanced features that are customized around their needs.

"Recognizing that consumers are integrating more components in home theater systems, Philips designed the new Pronto line to offer ultimate customization and control," said Marc Harmsen, Business Manager Europe at Philips Consumer Electronics. "Known for expansive RF solutions, we are confident that our latest products are the most reliable yet. The new line is more selective than ever before, and the LI910 allows optimal placement quickly and easily. Through specialized installations, Philips Pronto remotes control more than 1,100 different brands and enable installers to help consumers embrace a smart and simplified home entertainment experience."

In a 2005 study by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), 70 percent of participants responded that they currently own an accessory for home audio and video. Philips recognizes consumers' demand for products that enhance their entertainment experience, and the Pronto remotes ensure audio and video devices are easy to access and control. Along with simplifying control, the Pronto remotes create a visually pleasing environment by combining multiple remotes into one unit.

Colorful control: Philips ProntoPro RU990

Building on the success of its predecessor, the Philips ProntoPro RU990 touch-screen remote control combines design and function advancements to offer a customized control experience. With an increased memory capacity from 32 MB to 48 MB, the RU990 enables extensive customization and controls even more devices than previous Pronto remotes. The RU990 features an LCD display with more than 65,000 vibrant colors for crisp, clear images. Both installers and consumers will appreciate the tactile feel and comfort offered through the newly designed RU990's operational buttons.

The RU990 features four times faster uploading and downloading speeds as compared to previous models. Additionally, the RU990 features backward compatible RF capabilities and IR learning for the unit's extensive database of codes. When combined with the RF extender, the RU990 offers users a reliable control solution that is simple and easy for custom installers to configure and install. Currently available, the RU990 has a suggested retail price of Û1299.

Personalized performance: Philips Pronto RU960

Providing increased visibility, the RU960 features a dramatically enhanced display that is easy for consumers to view and control. The award-winning Pronto's updated design features new controls that are simple and comfortable to operate. The display screen, along with the icons, can be personalized by an installer to meet each consumer's unique needs and preferences. The unit also includes a charger, docking station and battery for a complete solution in one package.

Packaged with the advanced ProntoEdit(tm) software, installers can easily update the RU960's database of codes to include new products as they enter the market. ProntoEdit is the flexible PC software program that is included with every Pronto unit and provides extensive design flexibility, including the creation of personalized backgrounds, buttons, label icons and actions. The enhanced version of ProntoEdit features a fully reprogrammed IR dialogue box to set the minimum IR code duration and an extended gallery for more imagery selections. Buttons can now be linked to each other graphically and right-click menus have been added, resulting in more work being accomplished in a shorter amount of time. In addition, a revolutionary new base template allows entire systems to be programmed by an installer in minutes, with a minimal amount of effort beforehand.

Currently available, the RU960 has a suggested retail price of Û 549.

Extended control: LI910 RF extender

For ultimate reliable control, the LI910 receiver module works with the new Pronto units and features an LED that indicates signal interference and enables installers to place the remote at the best position. The LI910 also includes a free-positional antenna that can be rotated in all directions, adding flexibility and ensuring the system is optimized. Installers can easily connect the unit via the single connection cable for both power and IR signals, as well as increase IR capabilities with the four output ports on the unit itself. Currently available, the LI910 has a suggested retail price of Û 249.
